3:00 GP Race #5 6f Dirt Stake
Purse $100.000 For Three Year Olds.
1 Law Wrapper Establo Pichon Ortiz I Jr 121 —
Did well at FL State bred level finishing second in the FL Sire Stakes Fager, interestingly his best run and his only start over these six furlongs on the dirt. He was disappointing last time out over a longer trip on the grass, so he has something to prove today back to his best trip. The draw should allow him to position up behind the speed and he could have good each way shot,
2 Hurricane Ridge Fractious Zayas E J 121 —
The stable is on fire and this horse certainly stepped up when he was bought for $175.000 from his breeder going from a 13-length defeat to a three-quarter length win. Since that win at FG, he has been burning up the gallops with the sort of work times we are seeing in the TC qualifying races, so I expect that if he wins here, we could be seeing him in the better races before long.
3 Daily Serving Mb Stables Jaramillo E 121 —
He was gelded after two on paced efforts and looked to be going the right way until his last start when he was a well beaten last in the Coronation Futurity. We see plenty of one-off bad efforts at HRP these days so I think we can expect a much better effort today. His works are certainly strong enough and though he bounces back in trip today he should still be very competitive.
4 Crypto Winter Rock Creek Gonzalez El 121 —
His last two starts since being claimed have been on a wet track so it is hard to judge him on those runs, but there isn’t much to get excited about on his track performance at least. His works are OK, so he wouldn’t be out of place in this field. I just need to see him step up today and prove he is in this grade.
5 War In The Bahamas Jokerjoes Gonzalez Al 121 —
A consistent sort who has never been out of the first three, he took a while to break maidens but did it last time out over this trip so is clearly learning his trade. This isn’t the strongest race so his lack of stakes form doesn’t worry me, and I do like consistency, so he must be in anyone’s top three.
6 Castel Trosino First Flight Stable Gaffalione T 121 —
An interesting sort as he has only ever raced on turf, but a recent dirt work says he can go fast enough on this surface to be in this race. I liked the way he quickened up to win his maiden in a decent time so if the pace is hot, he could be the last challenger down the stretch.
7 Blood Boy Riggins Racing Husbands P 121 —
The two outside gates feature two horses trying to maintain an unbeaten record. This the first of them and he looks a very nice sort. It isn’t easy to win on debut, some say it’s impossible, but this one managed that with an all the way win in a WV stated bred over this trip and with normal improvement he could be the dark horse in this race. I guess the outside speed push may help him at the start and if he can clear them early, he should be in it for a long way.
8 Red Bull D J C Racing Stables Wilson E J 121 —
Stormed home to win on debut in a very fast time so one would expect him to go back from this wide draw and try and do the same again today. The pace of the race will be key for him and although his maiden win was at lowly TUP, I think he may be a progressive sort and with some luck could run well.
SUMMARY
It is hard to get away from the big two stables here with Hurricane Ridge and Daily Serving, so they would be the safe bets in the race. Outside those two, I think Blood Boy may be the one.
