Is There Anything Better Than a Perfect Sunday at the Beach?

1 Off Gold Asgar Wilson E J 121 —

Switched to the turf to break his maiden in impressive fashion at AQU clocking a fast time and winning easily. The grass is the key here as he looks one of the few that is markedly better on the surface and whilst there isn’t much beyond his last effort to go on, I do think he is a decent chance here.

2 Back Class TwinTowersRacing Gonzalez El 121 —

Took a while to break his maiden but did it when he switched to turf and went to the mile and then backed that up with a very nice third in the Pulpit. The trainer knows how to win black type and this one gets a lovely draw to jump from.

3 Neutral Mb Stables Husbands P 123 —

Without doubt the pick on achievement the only problem is that his achievements have all been over a sprint trip. Fourth in the Juvenile Turf Sprint and the winner of the Indian Summer he would be odds on if this race was over five furlongs, but it is not and that’s what makes it interesting. The race distance at HRP is not quite the same as real life or maybe it’s that horses jump around in trip more here, but you have to take this one seriously whether it is a mile or not.

4 Perfect Sunday Mb Stables Jaramillo E 121 —

An equally good record as his stable mate, this one was third in the Grade One Summer before disappointing in the BC Juvenile Turf but the key here is that he is proven over a mile and that may be the difference between the stable mates.

5 Damiano TwinTowersRacing Bridgmohan S X 121 —

Ran two good races on the turf but has been pretty poor on the dirt suggesting that this one is most at home on the grass. He may want even further than a mile in the long run, but he certainly should be strong at the end and may be the better of the two stable mates.

6 Were Wolf Riggins Racing Gaffalione T 121 —

Won two turf sprints before tackling the DeMile Stakes last time but despite running from a decent draw faded down the stretch. That may have looked like he didn’t get the trip, but he stalked a fast pace that day, and I have certainly seen that position disadvantaged on this race engine, so I am willing to wait on today as to whether he stays the mile well enough to win black type.

7 Table It For Noush Big Guns Stables Zayas E J 121 —

He may be a dark horse here as he has some good form around some average looking public works so he may be a grower not a shower and run better than expected. He has pace so this wide draw may help with the wide speed push and if he crosses them and leads at a sensible pace, he could spring a surprise.

8 Stage Door Johnny D J C Racing Stables Gonzalez Al 121 —

Drawn the car park he was right alongside Table It For Noush in the Pulpit but was running from a much better gate that day. The form book says he will find it tough to beat that horse today, but I don’t want to mention how many times I have ripped up the form book recently.

SUMMARY

An open looking race with two obvious chances, but I don’t think it is as clear cut as that. The two that will carry the most money will be the Mb pair and of the two I would side with Perfect Sunday as he has the form over a mile and two pounds less to carry. If Neutral can repeat his sprinting form, he will be very nearly winning so this seems the obvious exacta. That however is not where the chances end and a good case can be made for all of them here, but I am willing to give Were Wolf another chance.
