GP- For Fillies Three Years Old

Nine fillies will be heading to the starting gate for the seventh running of the Glitter Woman, an ungraded stake at GP. It’s not going to be the highlight of the weekend, but it does provide a good opportunity for three-year-old fillies to make a name for themselves. Looking through the field, it doesn’t look like more than an allowance as only two horses have made over $100.000. Several have run in bigger races but just didn’t get the results in them. So, we’ll see what happens this time around. 2023 winner Fire Artiste, for Alydar Stables, did go on to have a strong three-year-old season. Here’s the field that would not mind following that lead but this will be a shorter preview than they will typically be from me because this field is missing a bit of spark to me.

#1- Yeah Noha (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by El Gonzalez)- Won in her second race, coming at BEL in July in the mud, and was moved into stakes company after that point. That did not go well, as she struggled in the ELP Debutante and Chandelier. Eventually was dropped back into an allowance and got up for third at PRX last month. The good news for her here is she sees similar.

#2- Firebrand (Nakamura Stables, ridden by P Husbands)- Similar to Yeah Noha in that she’s one just one of her six races and when she did break her maiden, she was entered into stake company right away. Running third in the Sorrento Stakes showed her potential, but she bombed out against some of the best in the Frizette afterwards. Fourth in the Arnaz Stakes in her last start, coming in November.

#3- Awesome Angel (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by T Gaffalione)- Looked good in her first three races, winning two of them and the trainer hoped that she could carry that momentum into the Grade 1 Alcibiades. That did not happen as she was soundly defeated an she failed to hit the board in the Arnaz Stakes as well. Like everyone else, the good news is that she sees rivals in the same boat.

#4- Twerk Out (Witeout Stables, ridden by E J Zayas)- After two wins in free races, Twerk Out was moved to GP for an optional claimer, where she had a solid second place performance. This makes her one of the best bets in the field if you prefer picking a horse that’s consistently run well every time, she has been out there, but she still has a lot to prove. Zayas has been the winning rider of this race the last two years.

#5- Silver Springs (South Shore Stables, ridden by S X Bridgmohan)- Won two of her first three races, and that did include the FT Debutante at SA in June. That’s a big part of why she is one the two horses here with over $100.000 in earnings, but it is only by twenty cents. Struggled in two graded races after that, but of more concern to me is her poor run in an optional claimer at AQU. She’s had three and a half months to think about it, so the rest may help a lot.

#6- Viper Command (Aer Stables, ridden by E Jaramillo)- Another horse that really has to prove herself. She’s won once over her three starts, coming at FL, but her performance following that in an N1X allowance at the same track does not excite. She’s had time to rest and grow, and she’ll have to have improved over that time period.

#7- Secret Of A Lady (Fractious, ridden by Al Gonzalez)- It took her four starts to break her maiden, but she did run competitively in most of those races which came at high or mid-level tracks. Ran third in a five-furlong allowance after that where she came on strong late, so that may have just been too short for her. I do like the way that she is trending.

#8- Improvised Sin (Asgar, ridden by E J Wilson)- When it comes to resumes, this filly has the competition beat even though she has only won once. After that maiden win on debut, she was sent to the Schuylerville at SAR. She didn’t run there, but afterwards Lasix was added, and she’s been running in FL-bred stakes. There were four of them, and she hit the board in all of them. There may prove to be better horses in the race, but she certainly looks like the best of the group right now.

#9- Takoshi (Greyfriars Stable, ridden by B C Boulanger)- A winner of one out five thus far, with that win coming in her second start. It was off to stakes afterwards and she’s been hit and miss. Interestingly, her best performance came when running for the highest purse, the $225.000, so the potential is definitely there. Hopefully in time, she’ll become more consistent and show that ability more often.
