1st Crypto Winter Rock Creek Gonzalez El
The muddy track and the withdrawal of the likely favorite were two things that played into this one’s hands, but he still had to do the job and he did it very well in the end. Always on the pace, I thought something would run him down in the stretch, but he kept on gamely for a tough neck win. Half of this horse’s races and both his wins have now come on off tracks so he may still have something to prove in the dry, but he did the job today and that was what counted.
2nd War In The Bahamas Jokerjoes Gonzalez Al
The other stalker ran on pace the whole way and just got out battled in the end for a close second. He is a very consistent type and has now run 4 times into second place, but this was an improvement on his recent maiden win, and he looks to be getting some development out of that effort.
3rd Castel Trosino First Flight Stable Gaffalione T
Dropped back from his wide draw but was never too far back and flew the last furlong to just miss. I often see horses with turf ability do well on wet dirt tracks, so this was somewhat expected even if his odds gave him little chance. Another twenty yards and I think he would’ve won which will be encouraging for the trainer and it will be worth following him in this grade if he gets another chance.
4th Blood Boy Riggins Racing Husbands P
Right behind the pace he moved up with a furlong to run but found little in the end. The wet track could’ve affected his finish, so I wouldn’t be writing him off just yet.
