Highlander Stakes – Grade II
6 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $200.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
With just three lengths from first to last this was a typical HRP dash where
places could easily be reversed in the future. A length covered the first four
and the first 6 all scored triple digit SRF figures just to add some solis to
those who missed out on a paycheck. Here’s how the top four performed.
1st Silver Bullet, trained by Joseph Racing
Ran the stalk from the perfect draw and battled on gamely for a quarter length
win. This former router had won the Shoemaker Mile before so he showed plenty
of versatility to win his last two sprints. This was a win that puts him right
in the BC sprint picture and is another example of HRP’s veterans finding speed
as they get into old age.
2nd Smooth linguist, trained by Canadian Racing
Ran a similar race to his second in the Jaipur last time out and at only four
looks to have a bright sprinting future in front of him. He very nearly lasted
home today after getting to the front and gradually applying the pressure breaking all
those but the winner.
3rd People Want To Know, trained by Mb Stables
Took choice B from the wide gate going back and flying home late. This was a big run
from the three year old who has now managed three triple digit speed figures in a row.
4th Swamp Fox, trained by Blushing Meadows
Came late with the three year old and ran a brave fourth beaten only a length. Though
he has been sprinting well i would imagine a return to the mile may see another good
win from the five year old.
