Grade 3 for Three-Year-Old & Up
7 Furlongs Dirt

Impending Decision is not a clear favorite in this race, but he is having a heck of a year, with a record of 6-2-1-1 and $370.000 in earnings. He hit a snag in his last start, finishing 9th of 14 but still within 2 lengths of the winner. Then there’s Agua Dulce with one win in one start this year. That’s quite a feat, coming off a ten-month layoff. He’s riding high on a three-race winning streak. Generals Companion may be the class of the field with $1,835.200 in earnings off just four career wins, but virtually all of those earnings – and all of his four wins – came at a mile and beyond. Still, this General Assembly colt could pull off an upset.
Here’s the field:
1 Impending Decision
Owner: Night Rider Stables
Breeder: Barcelona Farms
Seven-year-old gelding late bloomer. In fact, 2016 has been the best year of his career in terms of earnings. And it’s barely July. Last out an anomaly. Or maybe he isn’t ready for Grade 1 company. But he should do well at this level and this distance.
2 Welcome Change
Owner: Alydar Stables
Breeder: Mb Stables
Six year gelding with a very successful career. Hasn’t won in graded company since last September. Performed well in the MD Sprint (G3) to finish 2nd by ½ length after trailing through most of the race. May be outclassed here.
3 Fly Millennium
Owner: John Henry
Breeder: Blushing Meadows
Three year old just off the KYD trail. All of his victories have come at 7 furlongs or shorter, including a win in the Bay Shore (G3) in April. Last out in the Stephens he finished a strong second just a neck behind the winner. His SRF figures aren’t as strong as some but he is definitely one to watch.
4 Generals Companion
Owner: Maximillion Farm
Breeder: La Canada Racehorses
This four-year-old colt won the New Orleans Handicap (G2) wire to wire at FG in March. In fact, all of his wins have come at a mile and beyond. Turned in a good performance in the General George Stakes (G3) at this distance but was passed in the stretch to finish third. Not a lot of experience sprinting.
5 Agua Dulce
Owner: Sanny Village
Breeder: Pan Farms
With just one start this year, this six-year-old gelding has earned $150.000 and won in graded company, continuing a winning streak that started last July. With nearly a year layoff, Agua Dulce not only won the True North (G2), he scored a career high SRF number at 101. And to think he was claimed for $10.500 last May. Hard to pick against him.
6 Phelps
Owner: Mb Stables
Breeder: Rouge River Stables
Coming off a win in the Hanshin Cup (G3), a race he won last year. Two wins in three starts this year. Finished off the board in the Excels (G3) trying to stretch out to 1 ¼ mile. Should like this distance much better. Could be in the mix.
