1 Awesome Angel TwinTowersRacing Davis D 120 —

This race doesn’t look on the face of it to have any stand outs so we may be looking for a filly who is going to take a leap up her improvement curve and put herself into the KYO picture. This is just the sort of filly that may do that because after looking good in her first three runs she just went off the boil a little when faced with stakes company. Her last run on a muddy track can be excused and whilst she didn’t make the frame in her two previous races, she did make up some ground and may be a little better than her finishing positions suggest.

2 Apricot Pitt Nakamura Stables Court J K 120 —

A good fourth in the Princess Elizabeth at the end of last year she had a nice blow out on seasonal debut in an optional claimer so may be ready to get back to winning ways. The draw will certainly help although I would like to see her just behind the speed rather than leading today. There is a lot of potential here and she could be a good choice for the win.

3 Outrageous Nevada Paradise Stable Smith M E 120 —

Her two wins have both come on turf, so she gets a go here at the KYO field on dirt, but she will have the fall back on the grass if it doesn’t work out. Her works do not look as sharp on this surface so I may wait until she is back on the green stuff, but she clearly has ability and as we all know works and surface can sometimes mean very little.

4 The Desire Sheffler Stables Gallardo A A 120 —

Another whose best form is on the turf, but she has shown enough ability on both surfaces to be a realistic chance here. The trip may be more of a concern for her as I do think a mile may be her limit but depending on the pace and where she positions in the running that may not be an issue. I am not sure she has the turn of foot to win a race like this, but this is a race which will be won by the filly with the biggest desire and there is nothing wrong with hers as her name suggests.

5 Barbara Big Jd Racing Moore R L 120 —

Another that seems to lack a turn of foot, but she has a good cruising speed and position as they hit the straight may win this race. She did very well in a couple of big-ticket State Breds so certainly has the class gene and the ability and consistency may be key.

6 Spirit Storm Nakamura Stables Lopez P 120 —

The stable has a strong hand here with two promising fillies and out of the two this one looks to have a big upside based on her two good wins and a strong mile work last time. Positioning by the race engine may be a key thing in this race and her mid pack draw will give her choices to take a sit or go forward. I like the chances of this filly if she can prove today, she has the class code.

7 Runhappy Hound Jive Inc. Saez L 120 —

There’s some good black type form around her but it is difficult to read because it has all been over sprint trips. She ran well in the Sorrento from a wide draw on this surface but has been concentrating on the turf since, but her dirt works say that she is one of the majority who can do well on both surfaces. On speed she may struggle with the distance here, but if she conserves some energy, she certainly has the class to get involved in the finish.

8 Judicial Watch TwinTowersRacing Beschizza A 120 —

I liked this one’s effort in the Starlet when a closing fourth and that performance puts her right into the top picks for this race. In her last start the draw or the trainer pressed the gaming button and switched her from a closer to a front runner, but I think she is better coming from off the pace even though on this engine that can be a gamble. Another from the stable with a winning chance.

9 Placebo Panionios Racing Geroux F 120 —

A five-race winner, she certainly has the right to be in this field but so far, all her form is over sprint trips, so it is hard to weigh her up against these. Typically, the works give us no clues as she has worked well over a sprint trip and a mile so we are left guessing as to whether she will stay the trip. If she does, she knows where the winning post is and could cause a minor shock.

10 Beach Towel Winning Link Stables Velazquez J R 120 —

A look at her works against her form just shows how hard it is to work these races out as she has been pretty ordinary in her works but outstanding in her racetrack performances. The trip may stretch her stamina, especially with the wide draw and it is likely that the race engine will want to push her into the lead. I guess if she gets away with a cheap lead her stamina may last, and she has good enough form for that to happen.

11 Cinnabon Fractious Franco M 120 —

This filly is never far away in any grade all the way up to grade one and coming from this yard her chances are obvious. She closed hard from the wide draw last time and over this longer trip may opt for that tactic again but that will come down to the race engine and the gaming button so we can only guess.

12 Whisky Lullaby Mb Stables Prat F 120 —

Claimed for $16.000 and then went on to run a cracker in the Busanda when a closing third. She certainly likes the feed in her new stable but is faced with a wide draw here that will make it tough. Whether the trainer or the race engine sends her forward or back, I am sure she will find a perfect spot and be in this at the end.

SUMMARY

This is a tough race because there isn’t one out standing filly here. Mb and Fractious seem to be winning everything at the moment so their charges must be given a big chance, but I like the Nakamura pair here so will be looking at them to fight out the finish.
