The Honeybee – Grade III [KYO]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.00 Filly 3-Year-Olds.
If you read my summary in the preview for this race then the shape and result of this race would be no surprise, but then let’s face it a BC champion winning a big race is no surprise either as is the name of the owner. This is how the top four raced to the line in what may be one of the main KYO form races:
1st Let Me Explain Mb Stables Velazquez J R
Wow, there is the KYO favorite right there. Good horses seem to get the right trip and this filly is a very, very good horse. Breaking into the stalk on a track where the straights are short and getting the runoff the bend is so important everything went to plan so well that the result was on the cards almost out of the gate. All the other chances went back to try and get a late run, especially as the fast early pace accentuated the gaps between the speed horses and the closers, on a long straight that may have been good tactics but not at OP. She kicked into an unassailable lead and held on with ease to record her seventh win from ten starts.
2nd Lady Lara Night Mare Racing Davila J R Jr
I must admit as good as the winning filly is, it was this filly that ran the race that captured my eye. Taken back as usual it was always going to be tough with a short straight to make up the ground, but she flew home wide and was gaining all the way. A long straight and she would’ve got very much closer to the winner and maybe with a better draw the race engine would’ve kept her a bit closer early on so all in all this was a huge effort.
3rd Divine Moonlight Smokey Stover Lopez P
Went hard early to get the advantage and held it nicely until they hit the short run in. She had gone too fast too soon and paid the price in the end, but this was her seasonal debut, so she is entitled to improve for the race. These three fillies were very good today, and I hope to see them in the KYO as it will be a thrilling race if they do.
4th Your Next TwinTowersRacing Geroux F
This was a really solid effort by a filly who may not be a superstar yet but won’t have to improve much to be one.
