After months of comparing first works and debut races, the time is coming across the country for the best two year olds to prove themselves out on the racetrack. The Lynbrook is one of two stakes at BEL this weekend for NY-bred two year olds, and the race for the males was Saturday in the Rockville Center, and the races will only get bigger and better for juveniles as we move to beautiful Saratoga Race Course next week. Feels good to say that, but first things first, we have some great racing to take care of here at BEL. It’s just the third time this race has been run, with the prior two winners being Dead Ant Dead Ant, and Downtheredcarpet. Dead Ant Dead Ant has gone on to win seven of twelve career races, and three of them are graded stakes. She is still active, but may not, unfortunately, race again. Downtheredcarpet has won four of twelve, and qualified for the BC Juvenile Fillies last year, though is still not yet a graded winner. Interestingly, both of these winners each went to SAR in their next start and also each won the $200.000 Seeking The Ante. So, remember that, winning trainer this year! The field of eight is the largest we have seen in this stake so far. Two year old dreams are strong throughout the game, and this will be an exciting battle. Let’s meet our entries!
#1- Finish The Fight (Sccj Stables, ridden by I Ortiz Jr)- Sold as recently as the 10th from Luz International to Sccj Stables for $70.000, the new trainer wastes no time entering the filly here. In two races, is one-for-two, winning her debut at PRX in April before placing third in an allowance at CD last month. She’s a beautifully conformed sprinter type by Greek God. Jacks Or Better also features prominently in her pedigree.
#2- Crown Of Jewels (M.b.o. Racing Stable, ridden by J Talamo)- She is still looking for her first win, but that’s about the only knock we can have on her at this time. Crown of Jewels was second in her debut, before being sent to the Astoria and running fifth against the likes of High Precious and Rollergirl, either of whom will be the filly triple crown winner depending on who you talk to. She’s by Dexter, who is a Charley Farley son. Ironbound is on the dam side.
#3- Titanium Missile (Yahudi Stables, ridden by J J Castellano)- Purchased for a surprisingly cheap $10.000 price tag by Yahudi from Deja Vu Farm back on the first day of June. She’s won one of two thus far, with her recent outing pretty impressive at PIM. Pedigree is a bit unheralded, but as a racehorse, the sire Titan was a two time graded winner, including the G1 HOL Derby in 2014.
#4- Toe Out (Team 7 Illusions, ridden by Mario Gutierrez)- Made her debut a couple weeks ago at FL, and routed a full field by four lengths, a race in which she came from off the pace. There’s no time for rest for her as she heads right back out there. Work times are a couple ticks slower then what we are seeing from others, but bear in mind that they were at FL. Pedigree features some inbreeding, but is strong with both Charley Farley and Jolly Be Great.
#5- Rythym And Blues (Winning Star, ridden by M Smith)- The only one in the field who has raced more then two times heading into the race, Rythym And Blues has wins at FON and MD to her credit. She is by Mummy, who of course, sired this years KYD winner, Water Mummy. I would’ve like to have seen more from her in her non-win, and feel she is a longshot here.
#6- Que Seras Creeps (D J C Racing Stables, J Ortiz)- This one looks to have a lot of potential, as she is working very well coming into the race. She is 1-for-2 in her career, with the maiden win coming last month at CD. I’m quite fascinated by her pedigree, and in particular, the sire Mr Creepy, in his having a Die Laffin (who has always been my favorite sire) son on top of Raunchy like that. Dam side is also Charley Farley-heavy. He is third overall behind Commanding and Sneaky Little Pirate on the sophomore sire list. No, D J C did not pay me for this endorsement! I think this filly is going places, and like her here.
#7- Squish (M.b.o. Racing Stables, ridden by L Saez)- One of two entries that M.b.o. has in this race, and take a look at something that they have in common, because you don’t see that all that much. Each are out of the dam, Ironbound Heartstead, and each have earned their way into the race, and are not just both placed here for the heck of it. Squish has won one of two, and in her most recent outing, she earned an 88 SRF, which is the highest here have earned. Much to like here as well.
#8- Snappy Return (Mb Stables, ridden by J Velazquez)- She’s only raced once thus far, and picked up a win in a NY-bred event at FL, by three lengths. Her conformation suggests that she is just going to want to keep racing longer and longer, so even if she doesn’t get them here, it’s a pretty safe bet that we’re going to be talking about her more in the future. Pedigree features Chai Latte on the sire side with Zero Return, with Steel Ball and Wild Chippy on the dam side.
