Tale of the Cat Stakes
MTH Race #6 1 1/16m Turf Stake
Purse $100.000 (plus up to $15.00 for NJ-breds) For Three Year Olds.
1 Sanctimonious TwinTowersRacing Camacho Sa 123 —
Improved after a little win at TUP at the start of the year, he ran pretty well in the Cutler Bay before weakening from on the speed suggesting he could be a chance here. In truth he will need to step up and so far, he hasn’t seen out the trip too well so he isn’t a top choice, but a good effort wouldn’t surprise.
2 Dime Fall Asgar Bravo J 123 —
Finally won his maiden at the eighth attempt but was very impressive over this trip and may have turned a corner. His best races have come from on speed so this draw is perfect for him, and he could well keep a good season going for the trainer.
3 Kindred Bucks Nakamura Stables Jara F 123 —
Considered good enough to have a crack at the TC qualification he didn’t fare too bad in the Gotham and FL Derby but was outside the top four both times. A fair run since in a decent overnight at CD he looks to gain some compensation for his trainer’s confidence.
4 Tap Mb Stables Vargas J A Jr 123 —
A good winner last time when back on turf clocking a sub-1.33-mile time at LS. Bought for $150.000, you would expect more than the three efforts at lower tracks but now the trainer has finally accepted he is a turfer we may see him rise in the ranks. Working well and clearly held in high regard by the best in the game, he will be a popular choice.
5 Prestigious Freak Saratoga Stud Castillo I 123 —
Another that went the TC route after looking more of a turf type, he did actually run very well in the Lewis to be third but didn’t see it out in the San Felipe and SA Derby after that. A strong effort from a wide gate in this grade last time, he will be a strong hope for the win.
6 Pollards Best Simmer Down Stable Juarez N 125 —
Had been running well at lower grade without winning, but that all changed last time when the wet weather came, and he took the Murphy over a mile. There’s ability here, but I feel a wet track is his best hope especially as he is lumped with a penalty for that win.
7 Neagh D J C Racing Stables Lopez P 123 —
Ran third behind Pollards Best in the Murphy and considering he had done OK in the wet before there seemed no real excuse. A real consistent sort he will probably end up going back from this draw so he will need the race engine to help him out should he get a chance at the win.
SUMMARY
The weather could play its part here but if it stays dry, then I quite like Kindred Bucks for this. Tap and Dime Fall may fight out the minors, but there are plenty of chances in this race and as usual anything could win.
