A new stake on the calendar took place on Saturday with the $100.000 ungraded Goldwood Stakes from MTH. It would draw a field of five for a turf sprint and seemed to have a balanced field. In the end, our pick backed up our support as Asgar’s Don’t Mind A Dime earned the victory. The bettors saw it differently by making another one a large favorite, but Don’t Mind A Dime would go wire to wire to win by two lengths in a time of 1:02.37 with N Juarez aboard. Congratulations to them! Here’s a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :22.46)- Our eventual winner from Asgar, Don’t Mind A Dime, wastes no time at all and jumps out to a length lead over the rest of the field. Right behind her, we find Solar Cruz running second for Smokey Stover, running to the outside of Mo Mentum Farm’s Marie Leveau, who was the 4/5 favorite. Shes So Pure is right behind them for TwinTowersRacing, leaving Disconnected (Mb Stables) to be the trailer, but is just three lengths off the lead.
(½ Mile- :45.14, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Don’t Mind A Dime handles the turn exceptionally well and opens up a little more of a cushion over the rest of the field as she enters the stretch. Marie Laveau is now ahead of Solar Cruz for second but needs to find a way to make up two lengths on Don’t Mind A Dime. Shes So Pure and Disconnected remain the two at the back.
(Finish- 1:02.37)- There’s not going to be any suspense in this one! Don’t Mind A Dime was clearly the best of these five runners, continuing to look very comfortable on the lead all the way to the wire. N Juarez was able to remain relaxed to the finish with this dominant two and a half-length victory. The race for second was tighter, and sees Marie Leveau holding off Shes So Pure, then Disconnected. Solar Cruz was fifth.
About The Winner- Don’t Mind A Dime, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by N Juarez, is a three-year-old filly by Dime Defense and is out of Don’t Mind If I Twizt. She was bred in California by Asgar as a first quarter two-year-old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 12 starts and her second stake win. Her career earnings are now $274.920.
