Crosby Stakes (Grade 1) (BC)- $400.000 Purse
DMR- For Three Year Olds and Upward
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
July 27, 2024
Back in February, High Time won the $100.000 Pelican Stakes at TAM and little did we know then that the victory would begin a winning streak that would lead to High Time earning a spot in the BC Sprint. High Time would come from off the pace in the Crosby, which has not been his style recently, but it has been something he has had success doing in the past. The result is his fourth straight win, keeping him undefeated in 2024 and sending him to the BC! This is the first win in the Crosby for his trainer, Maxmillion Farm, and his jockey, S X Bridgmohan. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:08.44, which is among the fastest winning times of the race. Let’s take a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :21.92)- Winning the battle to take the early advantage of the race will be Natural Instinct, from Mb Stables, and he holds a slight lead on Maxmillion Farm’s Crush Rush as these two run a quick opening quarter. Fionas Miracle is a length behind them while in the third lane for La Canada Racehorses. Next up comes Quiet Return, who runs along the rail for Allinthegate while having the Night rider Stables- trained Incinerator right beside him. Dayton is also within a length for Pan Farms, and All Take runs four wide for Alydar Stables. Our eventual winner, All Take, from Maxmillion Farm runs eighth, four lengths off the lead. It’s not his typical style to come from the back, but for him it’s a similar opening two-furlong time to recent races for him, so his positioning here may have been more because of how others were running rather than any different strategy being employed by the trainer. As is the case with his stablemate, he has an Mb Stables horse right next to him, this in the form of On Schedule. Gorilla Glue (Maxmillion Farm) and Tiz Trippi (Rock Creek) run at the back.
(½ Mile- :44.50)- Crush Rush and Natural Instinct are going at one another hard at the front, matching strides early into the turn, and there is no separating them as they enter the top of the stretch. At one point, they pulled out to a lead of at least two and a half lengths, but now they would need to try and hang on to the wire. Quiet Return was third, putting away Incinerator and leading fourth place Fionas Miracle by a length. The pack was getting tightened up with Incinerator still maintaining a consistent stride, and All Take running on the outside. Meanwhile, All Take looked to begin his run, and was able to move to the rail and take the lane right behind Quiet Return. On Schedule looked to move to the outside, while Dayton had not shown much as of yet. Tiz Trippi and Gorilla Glue were about another two lengths behind the pack.
(Finish- 1:08.44)- With a little under a furlong to go, Crush Rush would become the winner of the battle between he and Natural Instinct, but there were new challengers for him to hold off. The first one looked to be Quiet Return, who was on the rail for the stretch and making up ground quickly on the inside. High Time had been following him through the pack and had moved into fourth easily. Fortunately for him, Quiet Return would leave a little room on the rail for him, which would be enough for him to take advantage of. Things were tight after them, but these were the four to watch as we moved closer to the finish. Approaching the wire, All Take was incredible, finding additional speed as he was determined to keep his perfect record in 2024 intact. Quiet Return did all he could, but he could not match this late explosiveness of his rival as All Take goes on to win by a neck. Quiet Return beats third place Crush Rush by the same margin, with Natural Instinct hanging on for fourth place spoils. All Take is next, then a massive cluster right behind him, which will be scored as Incinerator and Fionas Miracle in a dead heat, then Gorilla Glue, On Schedule, Dayton, and Tiz Trippi.
About The Winner- All Take, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a five-year-old gelding by On High Alert and is out of Facetime. He was bred by Oquinn Farm in California as a first quarter two-year-old, and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm in a June 2022 private sale for $150.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his tenth in 27 starts, his sixth stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $1,140.040.
