Hirsch Stakes (Grade 1) (BC)- $400.000 Purse
DMR- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
August 3, 2024
Back in May, Decimas Queen nearly pulled off a win in the KYO, but settled for second to Wasted Away. After struggling in the Acorn, she showed her ability on the turf, but now had the opportunity to get a big win on the dirt, and earning her spot in the BC Distaff. She would make the most of the opportunity, taking command of the race in the stretch after stalking the early pace. Decimas Queen was our pick to win, and the second choice on the board. The filly is trained by Maxmillion Farm, who wins the Hirsch for the second time. His prior victory was in 2021, with Empire World. Jockey A Cedillo is also now a two-time winner, and he previously won in 2020. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:41.78, a middle of the road such time for the stake. Let’s take a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :23.26)- If yerwokeyerajoke goes right to the lead for TwinTowersRacing, and after battling Pink Attack for the top spot, she leads by about a length and a half at this point. The Sidley Stud’s Pink Attack will still hold the second position, half a length ahead of our eventual winner, Decimas Queen, for Maxmillion Farm. Next in line, we have Con Me on the rail for Alydar Stables, with the post time favorite, Plenty Of Profit right beside her for Riggins Racing. Following them are Storming Sunset (Rock Creek) and To The Beach (Mb Stables), and about two lengths to the trailer, Texas Holdem (D J C Racing Stables).
(½ Mile- :46.95)- Ifyerwokeyerajoke continues to show the way as the field moves down the backstretch. Right behind her, not much has changed with Pink Attack and Decimas Queen, as each hold a good stalking position. They’ve put a little more daylight between the next two, which is still Con Me and Plenty Of Profit. Nothing different behind them, either, as it’s still Storming Sunset and To The Beach running together, with Texas Holdem watching it all unfold in front of her.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- At the end of the backstretch, both Decimas Queen and Pink Attach moved over a lane to try and prepare a pass of Ifyerwokeyerajoke. Midway into the turn, it was evident that Decimas Queen was outperforming Pink Attack. Now in second, she pulled up beside Ifyerwokeyerajoke on exit of the turn and would poke a head in front at the top of the stretch. Ifyerwokeyerajoke was still running well enough to be a competitive second. Pink Attack was not able to keep up, and a nice gap opened up for Con Me to take advantage of, and she looked plenty capable to do so. The same opportunity was there for Plenty Of Profit, but she didn’t look as good here as Con Me was. To The Beach is next, and looked to take an outside lane, while Storming Sunset was not showing much. Any late run planned by Texas Holdem did not materialize as of yet.
(Finish- 1:41.78)- Once in the lead, there was no looking back for Decimas Queen. She didn’t necessarily pull away an open up on the rest of the field in the stretch, but she was able to run at a pace that no one was able to match. It would look a lot more comfortable for her than it probably was, but she will win by about a length over Con Me. That one ran well late to be second, and Ifyerwokeyerajoke does hang on for a solid third place finish. Plenty Of Profit edges out Pink Attack and Texas Holdem for fourth, with To The Beach and Storming Sunset taking the final spots.
About The Winner- Decimas Queen, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by A Cedillo, is a three-year-old filly by Decima and is out of the late Entice The Queen. She was bred in Kentucky by LionKing Stables and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm while she was still unraced in private sales for $20.000 in September 2023. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in eight starts and her third stake win, two of which are graded. Her career earnings are now $919.200.
