This effort was pretty comparable to her last stat over the mile, but it may have been the wide gate that ruined her chances then and she looked much better today and looks back on track at a late run at the BC Fillies and Mares Turf.

The Turf King coupled with a tough six-year-old was enough to see the prize go to Insist On Perfection by a game half length. This was the horses first win for 15 months so hasn’t come too soon but if you are going to win one you may as well go for a decent purse like this.

I had a feeling that the weights in these preview races were going to favor the older horses and sure enough that happened again here as this former claimer took the race by a half-length. This was a welcome win for a horse who has promised improvement through his claiming days and has been set up to win a race like this so the trainer should be congratulated for their persistence.

Again, the weights favored the older horses as the Mb trained four-year-old dug deep for a neck win. This is her third in a row and her fifth in her last six so there is some clear improvement going on, and I wonder whether the trainer will set this one up for a late run at the BC.

There’s a couple of these good TC type three-year-olds that have been sent to the turf and have looked like they will be contenders at a better level in the slightly easier division. Winned ran his first ever race on turf today and will strike fear into those with title aspirations as he sauntered home by two easy lengths. I am pretty sure the surface doesn’t really matter with most horses so this was not unexpected as he looked superior on his dirt form but nevertheless, he will set up an intriguing battle with the runners ups stable mate should those two clash in the future.
