The Sorority Stakes
MTH Race #6 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $200.000 (plus up to $30.000 for NJ-breds) For Fillies Two Years Old.
1 Haukea Acber Farms Castillo I 120 —
Took out her maiden well on debut and then had a break before coming back in the Schuylerville last time out. She showed plenty of speed, but fitness may have found her out in the stretch as she faded a little into third. That was still a big effort, and she will be far sharper today as her works are indicating and I like her chances as she gets her third ace draw in a row.
2 Ocean Secret Fractious Lopez P 120 —
Dug deep to win her maiden at WO last time and looks a cut above average. By last years TC hopeful Bold Ruler and out of a Commanding mare she may find this trip more to her liking and she again gets a great draw to get the job done for Fractious.
3 Cairn Toul London Racing Juarez N 120 —
Two good runs put her in this race but on her works at least she may need to find a bit to win. Like most here the trip is key as she steps up over ground for the first time so we are a bit in the dark, but her sire Ben Nevis liked to go long so we should expect her to see out the mile well.
4 Cam Code TwinTowersRacing Vargas J A Jr 120 —
Came from a mile behind in the My Dear last time to get within a length of the winner from a wide gate so you would expect this trip to be right up her alley. She has looked like the mile would suit her in all her runs so far and her works are good enough to put her right in the mix with a trainer that knows how to win.
5 The Lioness Mb Stables Bravo J 120 —
Just the name Mb Stables is synonymous with Stakes wins, so you have to take this one’s chances very seriously. An all the way winner of a big ticket DMR Maiden last time, my only worry here will be the trip as she is by the sprinter Championship Rounds. Likely to go on the speed many of these two-year-old races can be won that way and I expect her to run a big race.
6 Angies Tarantula Riggins Racing Jara F 120 —
The trainer is in a purple patch of form and very often that can be a deciding factor in a tight race. He was massive in winning a state bred maiden last time after a disappointing effort at WO. I liked the way she won that in a strong race time and her mile work recently says she has improved again so whilst she hasn’t got the form as some, I think she may surprise a few.
7 Hot Twizt Asgar Nunez A Y 120 —
It seems funny how the inside two have always had inside draws and this one has always had wide draws, but the draw monster is a fickle thing, and this horse has rolled with the punches well enough winning nicely last time out. Her works aren’t as impressive as some, but we all know how good her grand sire was when stepped up in trip.
8 Fatal Attraction Arkansas Elite Camacho Sa 120 —
Worked well enough after her maiden win to earn her an entry here but will find it tough in this grade from a wide draw. We don’t know much about her ability to get this trip but she dug deep over five furlongs so there is no reason why she can’t do well.
9 Fishing Hole Blazin D Martinez Fr 120 —
She closed like she wanted this mile last time after a good maiden win at PRX, but she gets a tough task here from the car park gate. Her works suggest that she can involve either late on or on the speed depending on which the trainer or the race engine decides to do.
SUMMARY
The hardest thing about picking the winner of this race is trying to work out which one will improve up to the mile so looking at the mile works may be the key. Fishing Pole, Haukea and Angies Tarantula all managed sub-1.38’s so I will go for one of those to come out on top.
