KEE Weekend Coverage

Bonus Coverage                                                  10/5/24

 3   KEE         Woodford (GII)

$350.000     3yo&Up     1m Turf           3yo 121lbs  Older 124lbs

Big weekend of racing in Lexington, and the bonus coverage keeps coming and we look at the field for one of my favorite races, the Woodford (GII) – you know, Woodford Reserve, mother’s milk…  Blanton’s light.  Ok, enough… we will get to that at the end of this.  I’m looking at Grayte Agent to get the job done vs. this classy group.  He nailed down his third win of the season in the KD Turf Sprint (GII) but I think he carries his speed a bit more today.  I know, I know, he tired late in the Jones at ELP, but that was on the dirt, and today is a different day.  The second spot is a blanket… I like Max and Insist On Perfection, DJC and Awad looks to be tough as does the big stable with Exemplary… let’s put them on the bottom of the exacta/tri and try to win enough to get that hot-dog and beer that Max and I have been talking about… better yet… a Blanton’s on ice could be the answer.

4   KEE         TC of America (GII) [BC]

$350.000     3yo&Up F&M     6f Dirt           3yo 121lbs  Older 124lbs

Another big field as the lady sprinters go for a nice payday and BC points in the TC of America (GII), a six panel dash that is about as deep as you could every hope to find as a handicapper.  So which way to go??  I’ll take Lady Sammyantha, winning three of her last four starts, including the Vinery Madison back in the spring meet.  She’s as tough as they come, so let’s see if she makes it three in a row.  Let’s stay with the hot horses and give Decimas Queen a chance to get part of this one.  She looked good winning the Tepin, then scored a big one at DMR in the Hirsch (GI) at DMR.  This may be a bit shorter than her best distance, but I think she can turn on the early pace and be a factor.

$750.000     3yo&up  F&M     1m Turf           3yo 121lbs  Older 124lbs

I didn’t come back to write and watch things go without proper press…KEE Stakes action in Lexington, and we aren’t going to let these go without coverage… it’s the First Lady (GI), a flat mile turf test for the ladies.  I’m going to start my handicapping with an excuse, so… here we go…  I’ll take Bella Latte as the top choice if and only if it is a dry track.  I know, she had a second and a win on soft turf, but I just don’t like her as much on a wet surface… and that’s my story.  She looked good winning the Appalachian over this course back in the spring, and I sure do love home cookin.  Let’s give Demanding Commander a big look today off of that nice win in the field at KD.  That was a big purse in the KD Ladies and she can flat out get it, so keep her on your tickets.  If it rains, I’ll be back with an update.
