NM Thoroughbred Futurity ($160.000 Purse)
ALB- For Two Year Olds Foaled In NM
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
October 13, 2024
Asgar will be hoping for a big day on Sunday at ALB, as the trainer is responsible for three of the five entries that will head to the gate in the ninth running of the NM Thoroughbred Futurity. Jive Inc and Panionios Racing are looking to crash the party. Last year’s winner was Wolf Stare, for Bears Stable, and it was the fourth win in a row for that gelding. However, he has not done much since, though is still active. There may be some great future horses in this field, but I grudgingly must say that at this current time, this group does lack excitement. We’ll take a quick look at them anyway, now:
1- Eat Out To Help Out (Asgar, ridden by E P Gomez)- Broke his maiden here last month in his third career start, prevailing in a field of five. Hopefully, this is a horse that runs a lot better than he works, because his recent work times are unimpressive. Perhaps there is a very good reason for them, as his works over the summer were better by about a second.
2- Roman Hound (Jive Inc., ridden by A J Juarez Jr)- Very capable of keeping Asgar from visiting the winner’s circle. Broke his maiden with a four-length win at LS in July and followed that up a few weeks after by running second in the Rio Grande Senor Futurity, which is also for NM Breds. He’s well rested and put in a nice work at SA before arriving here. Looks like he may be party crasher.
3- Fly Robin Fly (Panionios Racing, ridden by M T Fuentes Jr)- Still under $10.000 in career earnings, and didn’t show much of anything in his most recent start. His only other race was a maiden win in the mud at EMD. He was gelded a few weeks ago, and first-time geldings are always an angle to watch in our virtual racing world. I wouldn’t rule him out, entirely.
4- Amazing Thrill (Asgar, ridden by F S Valdez)- This is probably the one that Asgar is the most excited about entering the race. The Amazing Twizt gelding has been consistent, winning on debut, and then finishing third in next three races, with one of them being the $250.000 KY Juvenile in May. Since then, he’s been running in NM bred stakes that drew bigger fields. Was third in the Rio Grande Senor Futurity last time out.
5- Amazing Nation (Asgar, ridden by K Roman)- Only has made one start, coming in late August, where he won at RUI. Since then, the trainer has been hoping that the horse would continue to improve and that seems to be playing out. Before coming here, he put in an impressive work at SA, so you can see his potential. While Asgar obviously wants to win, I bet he is equally interested in seeing how Amazing Nation stacks up to Amazing Thrill, head-to-head.
Prediction: 2-4-5-3
