BC Juvenile Turf Sprint – Grade I
5 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 2 Year Olds.
The First thing I will do is indulge myself with a bit of self-gratification as my summary for this race included the sentence, “For me then I will go for Mind The Dimes to come late and wide and nab Ineedu2party close home.”
OK so with that bit of a self-pat on the back over let’s see how it all went as indeed this was a race with a furious early pace and in the end, noses and necks separated them all. An even breakthrough the first furlong with Ineedu2party and Criminal Law going hard from the wide draws and Big Blue showing speed from the inside. Kid Puka and Tank Davis were working hard from wide, and Einstein and Queen Mia were holding ground and within a length with Sizzlin. Yankee Hanny was taken back with Matey, Mind The Dimes and So Glad You’re Mine missing the kick.
By the end of the backstretch and coming into the turn Ineedu2party was still going hard to try and clear them but Queen Mia was trying hard to hold him out with Big Blue still trying to hold the inside. Two furlongs out and crowning the bend Ineedu2party was a clear leader and crossed to the rail, Queen Mia was hung out wide and stalking with Criminal Law and Tank Davis. Barn Breath and Big Blue were enjoying the inside and just behind the speed. The back markers faced a wall with So Glad Youre Mine still last and the others probing for gaps. Inside the last furlong, Ineedu2party was cramping and Mind The Dimes was wide and flying. So Glad Your Mine was full of running but running into the back of others. In the run to the line Mind The Dimes got up from wide while IneedU2party was brave in holding second, Sizzlin got into third with Big Blue just behind in fourth.
1st Mind The Dimes Asgar Lopez P :56.96
Well back from out of the gate, stayed wide, and got into contention early enough before showing a telling turn of foot to sweep past the tiring leader. This was a great decision by the trainer to bring the Pilgrim fourth back to sprinting as his turn of foot and stamina came into play at the right time. So many of the other closers just ran into brick walls but Lopez kept this one wide and avoided the trouble. A great win for the owner-breeder who has been having a great season and now has their third BC champion.
2nd Ineedu2party Maxmillion Farm Jimenez A :57.05
It was no secret that this one was going to try and lead but he had to run a 22 flat to get it and was pushed hard before crossing to the rail. As they hit the stretch it looked like he was going to hold on and he was still holding a lead inside the final half furlong, but he was fighting for oxygen and was always going to be vulnerable late and just went down. This was a brave effort but for one clear trip, he had them beat with his fantastic early speed.
3rd Sizzlin Aer Stables Beschizza A :57.08
Always within striking distance she was the best of the fillies home in third and only beaten a half-length.
4th Big Blue Mb Stables Gutierrez Mario :57.09
The best of the Mb Stables runners he showed good speed throughout and held the inside line to keep out of trouble. In the end, he was right in the finish but just couldn’t find a quicker finish to get him over the line.
