BC Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1)- $2,000.000 Purse
DMR- For Fillies Two Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
November 1, 2024
What a year it has been for Solilioquy Sunset! Prior to the BC Juvenile Fillies, she had a perfect two-year-old season, going 4-for-4, including wins in the DMR Debutante and the Frizette. Now, we can add another massive win for her, and she is now a BC Champion! When you set the bar this high, all eyes will be on you for your three-year-old season. We don’t know now if trainer Nakamura Stables will send her out there again 2024, but for now she has simply been perfect. Congratulations to Nakamura Stables for all that he has done with this filly as he scores his first career BC Juvenile Fillies win! Jockey A A Gallardo is now a two-time winner, as his previous win came in 2018 with Camp Hollywood. Soliloquy Sunset doesn’t have a regular rider yet, but Gallardo, who also rode her in the DMR Debutante is making his case to become that. Soliloquy Sunset was our second choice in the preview, and our top choice, Credit Crime also had a strong race. Time will tell if one of these filles becomes a KYO champion, but if nothing else, we have some favorites to be watching once 2025 begins. If you’re wondering, Soliloquy Sunset is sired by The Sodfather, who has some public services available now for $13.000. Anyway, the time of the race was 1:42.12. Let’s take a look at it now:
(1/4 Mile- :22.75)- It’s a three-horse breakaway of sorts right from the gate, and Princess Caraboo, trained by Fractious, will be the most ambitious out of all of them from the outside. She’s ahead by nearly a full length on WIlliams9’s Out Of Tlove, and running right behind them is TwinTowersRacing’s Stink Eye. Behind them, there is about a two-length gap to the rest of the field heading into the opening turn, and Center Of Gravity locks down the fourth position for Alydar Stables while running in the third lane. A length behind them, we have two horses, and one of them is our eventual winner from Nakamura Stables, Solilioquy Sunset. She is officially scored as being four lengths from the leader. Luminous Gold, from Fractious, keeps her company right beside her, and they have Escapist, from Williams9, nearby. It’s then a break of about a length and a half to a four wide group, who consist of, from inside to outside, Credit Crime (Aer Stables), Snow Ridge (Fractious), The Lioness (Mb Stables), and Aye Eye (TwinTowersRacing). Down On The Beat (Night Mare Racing) is in the vicinity while running on the fifth lane. Twizted Tea (Asgar) is about a length behind them, and at the back of the pack, Speed Five (Asgar) can see them all.
(½ Mile- :46.27)- This field is become more spread out than maybe we would have expected to see, and the three horses that were quicker than the others are now all running alongside one another. There’s a new leader, though, as Stink Eye moved into the third lane and pokes her head in front coming down the backstretch. Princess Caraboo isn’t going anywhere, and is in between horses while running second while Out Of Tlove runs on the rail. Stalking the top three is Center Of Gravity, but even she is about two and a half lengths from the lead. The same gap is present to the next two horses, which continues to be Soliloquy Sunset and Luminous Gold. At this point, each of those fillies are scored as being six lengths from the lead but they still had to be glad to have the rest of the field running behind them. That four wide group in the middle of the pack has broken up, with Escapist and The Lioness pulling ahead of the others. Even they have a length and half advantage over Credit Crime and Snow Ridge, who had been running with them not too long ago. Aye Eye has joined those two. Next comes Down On The Beat and Twizted Tea, with Speed Five still at the back.
(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Heading into the stretch, the original three pacesetters are still in the top positions, but as soon as the run around the turn began, you could see their lead shrinking. This would become especially evident as we got closer to the top of the stretch. First, of the pacesetters, Out Of Tlove has her claim on the lead temporarily, by a neck on Stink Eye. Princess Caraboo looked to be the first one to drop out of back of these three. Center Of Gravity, who was sitting just off the lead throughout was not really able to make progress on them, and merely ran evenly. This would mean losing positions, as both Soliloquy Sunset and Luminous Gold would make their move approaching the exit of the turn. For Soliloquy Sunset, this meant staying on the rail, and there was enough room for her to stay there without losing her stride in the stretch. Nakamura Stables had to be thrilled with how this race was setting up for her entering the stretch. Meanwhile, Luminous Gold was looking good but had to go four wide to make her own bid. Elsewhere in the pack, it was about a length and a half to the rest of the field, with The Lioness being the best of the rest for now but had Credit Crime about to go by to her inside, and Snow Ridge to her outside. Escapist was right there with them. A little further back, the time was now for the likes of Down On The Beat, Twizted Tea, Aye Eye, and Speed Five to show what they may have been saving.
(Finish- 1:42.12)- As soon as the stretch run began, Soliloquy Sunset would have grabbed your attention if she had not done so already. Taking advantage of the clear lane, and like a horse that knows nothing other than winning a race, she confidently hit her best stride and would only look better and better as we got closer to the wire. Luminous Gold was also moving well, but this race was going to belong to Soliloquy Sunset. Meanwhile, Out Of Tlove would be the only one of the three pacesetters to hang around at the front for a little while in the stretch, as ultimately, it would be those who were in back in the pack a bit making their moves and getting by horses in the stretch. Those efforts would only be for the third position, as this race belong to Soliloquy Sunset, who simply looked brilliant all the way to the wire to secure the win! Luminous Gold ran a strong second, and probably would have looked even more impressive if it wasn’t for Soliloquy Sunset as she too, had a strong stretch run. Credit Crime, our pick to win, came on very well to be third, but simply conceded too much ground to the top two to make up in the stretch. It’s half a length to the fourth place Snow Ridge for the final piece of the purse, who beats the very late running Down On The Beat and Twizted Tea for fourth. The rest of the order will read Center Of Gravity, Out Of Tlove, The Lioness, Escapist, Princess Caraboo, Stink Eye, Aye Eye, and Speed Five.
About The Winner- Soliloquy Sunset, trained by Nakamura Stables and ridden to victory by A A Gallardo, is a two-year-old filly by The Sodfather and is out of Run Away Go Away (out of the still underrated Worst Case Scenario). She was bred in Florida by Nakamura Stables as a first quarter two-year-old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! She is now 5-for-5 in her career with four stake wins, three being graded and all of the graded wins being Grade 1’s. Her career earnings are now $1,690.000 and counting!
