The next-to-last BC Race on “Youngster Friday“, The BC Juvenile (GI) and I really think we saw a fair race, a great race… and I think it proved that we have a fantastic group of horses that will be hitting the TC Trail soon. For Alydar Stables and Daemon, that journey is already completed as the gray gelding proved that his absolutely for real, tracking the pace throughout, and finding another gear just when he needed it, winning by a half-length while stopping the clock at 1:41.68. I’m floored that he was sent off at 19/1 odds, but fourteen horse fields will do that.
Allinthegate sent Obi Wan out there on a frozen rope, tracking the pace from the inside and really digging in late, but just couldn’t hold off the winner, while nosing out Point Given for third, with his stable mate Extreme Jet in fourth, those from the Fractious outfit.
Only seven lengths from first to worst in this one, and the track was labeled Fast.
The field loaded into the gate, the flag went up, and off and running in the 2024 BC Juvenile… from the outside, Obi Won on the early gas and crossing over to the rail just as they hit the clubhouse turn, a line of five behind that one that included Mooresy, Without Warning in the four path, Extreme Jet next to that one, the down to Daemon, back outside Hunt For Phun caught five wide, a gap to the duo of Decal on the rail and Speed Queen next to that one, the a gap back to the trailing fivesome of Point Given saving ground, Maymum next to that one, out wider to Comanche Smoke, Street Magician and Rolling Pin was the early trailer.
Around the clubhouse turn and on to the run down the backside, Without Warning decided to make this race his own opening a clear lead on the field, Obi Won skimmin’ the rail in second, another length to a line that included Daemon in the 2p, Mooresy on the rail, Extreme Jet in the 3p, then Domestic Product out widest of the group, Hunt For Phun on his inside. A gap of two more, Speed Queen on the outside of Decal, then another gap of two to the trailers that included, Point Given, Maymum, Street Magician, Comanche Smoke and Rolling Pin.
Down the backside, and now midway on the far turn, the moved past the five sixteenth’s pole and Without Warning still showing the way, Obi Wan continued to bide his time along the rail, and now Daemon inching up a bit. A length back to Extreme Jet, Mooresy to his inside, Hunt For Phun still widest of all. Domestic Product wide as well but headed in the wrong direction, then another gap to Decal along the rail, Speed Queen, Point Five along the inside, Rolling Pin still wide, Street Magician, Maymun and Comanche Smoke was the trailer.
The field now making the run down the lane as the crown came to the feat… the complexion of this one had changed in just a few strides… Daemon down the center of the track up to go a length clear of Obi Wan, trying to find more with that ground saving trip… Without Warning looking weary, Extreme Jet making a move outside, back down to the rail, so was Point Given, then back outside for Hunt For Phun, and the rest were trying to find anything to improve position.
The final 150-yards and to the finish, this was a two-horse battle, Daemon with the lead, Obi Wan trying to find the power… but when the hit the line it was Daemon in front by a half-length. Obi Wan a very game second, then Point Given closing a late gap to grab the third spot. Extreme Jet a length back in fourth, Rolling Pin fifth, Without Warning tiring to be sixth, a dead-heat for seventh with Street Magician and Hunt For Phun, Mooresy ninth, Decal tenth, Comanche Smoke eleventh, Maymun twelfth, Domestic Product thirteenth and Speed Queen fourteenth.
Daemon bred and owned by Alydar Stables, is a gray two-year-old gelding by State Of Fury out of the Sweet Sweat mare, Talk Sweet To Me, and she was bred in California. This was his third win from four starts, three consecutive wins, and he now has lifetime earnings of $1,425.000. Congratulations to the connections and let’s look forward to seeing this one in the starting gate, the first weekend in May.
