6 CD KY Jockey Club (GII) [KYD]
$400.000 2yo 1 1/16th mile Dirt 120lbs
I am not good at handicapping these types of races, but this is a big stepping stone towards coming back here in May, so we have to put on our thinking caps and come up with something solid for Saturday’s KY Jockey Club (GII), a mile and a sixteenth test over the famed oval, here in Louisville, that certainly seems to lead back here for the KYD. I liked him on BC Day, so why not come right back with Obi Wan, fresh off of his runner up finish in the BC Juv (GI). He also won the Champagne (GI) at AQU, and he’s never been worse than second in four lifetime starts. Nice am gallops getting ready for today, so all systems are go. I get burned every single time I leave Mb Stables off of my tickets, and I’m looking at both of his entrants to run big today. I’ll go with Consensual in the second spot, that one winning two in a row, breaking maiden at KEE, then taking the Nashua at AQU. He’s bred well, runs well… no surprises here. Banned is the second half of the Big Stable entry and he’s my third pick, today. He looked good closing like a freight train to take the Grey Stakes (GIII) up north of the border, and maybe more impressive was his fourth in the Breeders Futurity at KEE, where he looked hopelessly beaten that evening, only to finish a length off of the winner… he has a late motor that may be unmatched. I can’t wait to see him at the longer distances.
