6 DMR HOL Derby (GI)
$300.000 3yo 1 1/8th mile Turf 122lbs
Two days after Thanksgiving and the Derby’s still the “thing”… only five will head to the post for Saturday’s HOL Derby (GI), a mile and an eighth turf test for the sophomore gents, and I’m locked in on Diamond Haggis as the top choice today. Two wins on the year for this one, but a second in the Nashville Derby (GIII) at KD and a huge run in the BC Mile (GI) certainly helped put a bunch of cash in his account. If he repeats that BC effort, I think he cruises home. Charlie Jace has three wins and a second since being purchased by Mb at the Arindel Dispersal, back in June. He’s a dual threat, showing the ability to carry his speed, or close from the back of the pack, and with a small field, either direction could be lethal. The Card also likes Rastaban and that one sure did run big over this course taking the Twilight (GII), so yeah… I can see him being a factor as well.
