6 DMR HOL Derby (GI)
$300.000 3yo 1 1/8th mile Turf 122lbs
I picked one right, shocker… and another dead-heat, not a shocker. Mb Stables‘ Charlie Jace was sent off as the 1/2 favorite and squeezed out a victory about as short as his odds, winning the HOL Derby (GI) by a nose, stopping the timer at 1:44.81 for the mile and an eighth over the lush DMR turf. That’s his third win in a row and he’s just a nose shy of perfect since being haltered at the Arindel Dispersal Auction. Fractious’ Diamond Haggis had the lead in the lane but just missed in a tight one… then headed directly to the Dec Auction, so this one is available, and should bring a pretty penny. We had a dead-heat for third as Fractious’ Way Of The Dragon and Riggins Racing’s Rastaban were close enough for government work, so they split the third/fourth money. Five lengths covered the field of five.
