11 FG Lecomte Stakes (GIII) [KYD]
$250.000 116th Mile Dirt 3yo 122lbs
All-important KYD points are on the line as a full field will head to the gate for the Lecomte Stakes (GIII), a mile and a sixteenth test for the sophomores and one of the first 2025 tests to see who wants to go to Louisville in May.
So, let’s get right into this one and can you really go past Daemon? Throw out that first race, like we do for just about any horse, and he’s a perfect 3-for-3 including the Pharoah (GI) at SA and the BC Juv (GI) at DMR. Solid local works shows that they had this race in mind, so it looks like all eyes will be on him… probably most of the money, as well.
You can’t look at the prep races without going to the Big Barn, and Mb has a trio of entrants today. I’ll take Banned in the second spot, even though he’s had a pair of less than wonderful starts, leading up to this one. He won the Grey Stakes (GIII) at WO, and has two other big-purse wins, so the turn-around is certainly something he is capable of.
The Wood Duck outfit looks to be a barn that is on the rise, and I will go to the outside post and give Red Font a shot. A solid win here in LA taking the LA Futurity in his last start of the ’24 season, and is a horse that should be a factor as we continue down the TC Trail. If he runs back to that last-out win, it could be lights out.
It’s a nice field and we wish good luck to all of the barns!
