San Pasqual Stakes – Grade II
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Cheap Ways Riggins Racing Gonzalez Ru
This six-year-old has been consistent and knocking on the door for a while now but looked destined to being just a decent type rather than a world beater. Today however with a few things in his favor he looked very good in coming from off the pace to win by a half-length. The pace setters were key here as usual setting a strong pace and allowing the closers to get to the leaders, the second key thing here was the AI being able to extricate from an inside draw and avoid the traffic, with both of those factors in place he showed just what he is capable of. If you look at his works, a sub-1.36-mile work and a 1.10 flat six furlong work he certainly came here with those boxes ticked and he beat a good field here possibly suggesting that at six he may have reached his peak.
2nd Pennine Way Jediminds Stable Valdivia J Jr
This is a very capable horse, but he can be frustrating at times, today however we saw the best of him looking the winner down the stretch he had to settle for second in the end.
3rd Living In The Matrix TwinTowersRacing Frey K
The first three were all six-year-olds and at this time of year those older horses do seem to have an advantage over their younger rivals. This one is a tough nut who seemed to enjoy being ridden just off the pace rather than going to the lead and kept on really nicely for third. He always seems to be right in the thick of it wherever he runs, and I would expect more of the same going forward.
4th Face The Lunatic Martyparty Hernandez J J
The five-year-old came from a mile back to close into fourth in a promising effort.
