The Maiden Purrs to Victory in The Kittens Joy

The Kittens Joy
1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $150.000 Open 3-Year-Olds.

1st Smokin Access Red Fox Farms Berrios Hector

Well, as unlikely as a once-raced maiden who had only ever run over five furlongs winning this competitive stakes race and beating stakes winners sounds, in the world of HRP it wasn’t quite the shock result that you would expect. The key here was the 1.35 and 1 turf mile work at the end of December, faster than pretty much anything in this race. Stalking the pace in a confident ride he won by a half-length and even at this early stage looks an exciting prospect for those big turf three-year-old purses later in the year.

2nd Spin Zone Mb Stables Velazquez J R

The Dania Beach winner was a bit further back than usual which meant he had to extricate himself from the inside draw and find some gaps. He was doing good work all the way to the line but came up short in the end, but I am pretty sure we will see these first two taking each other on a few times this year and he will have an opportunity to get his revenge soon enough.

3rd Canyon Wind High Voltage Lopez P

The wide gate helped him make the lead, but he had to go pretty hard to hold it and as inevitably happens he floundered late in the race. He went under by less than a length in the end which was a brave effort and not too dissimilar to his effort in the Dania Beach last time.

4th= Full Access Mb Stables Franco M

In only his third start he ran well enough today to suggest this one has a bright future, just a length behind the winner at the end he will improve for the effort.

4th= Knight Knight Sim Speed Stable Corbett G W

Coming from a mile behind he probably posted the quickest fractionals in the last quarter, so this was a very good effort. He needs some tactical work to improve his timing but when he gets it right, he could be a very effective route type.
