Closers Once Again Fill the Photo in The Suncoast Stakes

The Suncoast Stakes [KYO]
1 Mile 70 Yards Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.

1st El Sweetie Greyfriars Stable Baird E T

It seems a bit like Groundhog Day in these KYO and KYD qualifiers as they all seem to be going to late closers. Is it that with all the talk of the race engine favoring on-speed that people are going to fast with their gaming buttons or is it the race engine balancing out that on-speed bias which seemed so prevalent at the end of last year. Whichever it is we saw another come from the clouds to win and at this point both the three-year-old’s classics will feature a field all jostling for the best late run. This filly has been a deep closer in all her starts, so we expected her to come late but she left it very late and only just made it winning by a neck on the line. Now the winner of three from four, she looks a natural type for the KYO and is a credit to her trainer who kept her off the track until late last year to give her time to mature. Bred by the trainer she looks an exciting prospect.

Another that flew home late as expected, she ran a great race and looks as though she could be a live chance to gain qualification for the KYO in her next start. Held up a little the winner got first run on her and that was key as the race changed complexion in the final furlong.

3rd Rain Rattle Bears Stable Alvarado F T

What a great effort from the $4.000 claim running on nicely for third and running from a terrible draw. She was only a quarter length off a famous win, and I would certainly be putting her on my watch list as a fast-improving filly especially as she was wide throughout and covered many more lengths than she was beaten by.

4th Liquor In Front High Voltage Garcia Mar

The best of the on-speed runners she had stalked the speed but was run down as so many seem to be at the moment. A good effort.
