Storm Water Is Highly Impressive In GP Sprint Championship Win

The GP Sprint Championship ($125.000 Purse)
GP- For Four Year Olds and Upward
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
February 22, 2025

After winning an optional claimer at FG last month, his third win out of five starts, Storm Water would get his first chance to run at the stake level since winning the SSM Classic in January of 2024, which was also the last time that he ran here at GP. Storm Water would make the most of the opportunity, going out to the lead as he typically does, and not letting anyone by him for the wire to wire victory! The Commanding The Storm gelding is trained by Asgar, and it is his first win in the race. Storm Water was among our picks in this race, but not the top choice. On the jockey side, it’s the second such win for E Jaramillo. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was 1:08.55, shattering the old stake record by 0.44! Here’s a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.34)- Storm Water goes right to the front for Asgar, and the race’s ultimate winner is clear quickly by a length as they move down the backstretch. Behind him, it’s congested for the second position as Elvis Lives Party, trained by Mb Stables, is a neck in front of Spankys Barn’s Gorogue Laga, and nearby to them are Frenchman (Threshold) near the rail and Super Powers (La Canada Racehorses) on the far outside. Behind them, it’s Crimson Smoke (Blazin D), then Louisiana Asset (Big Jd Racing), Wonder Run (Parkers Pride) and Ultra Maga (TwinTowersRacing).

(½ Mile- :45.14, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Storm Water is in the driver’s seat of this one, comfortably handling the turn and entering the stretch with a two length advantage. She would only further pull away from Elvis Lives Party at this point, and for now there did not seem to be any new challengers coming from further behind. It’s too early to consider the race in the bag, but Asgar was certainly happy with how this was setting up at this point. The next four after Elvis Lives Party are still Gorogue Laga, Frenchman, Super Powers, and Crimson Smoke, but none of them were making a push. Further back, Louisiana Asset had a lot of work to do if he would be that challenger, with the task being even greater for Wonder Run and Ultra Maga.

(Finish- 1:08.55)- There would be no one getting to Storm Water in the stretch. He had gotten away from the field right from the start, and would comfortably win by a length and a half. Great result, and I have to presume we see him run graded next time out for the first time. Elvis Lives Party is the runner up and despite being beaten convincingly, he also would have the stake record if not for Storm Water. That’s a particular credit to the winner. It’s a length and a half from him to a third place photo between Louisiana Asset and Crimson Smoke who were merely the best of the rest. Rounding it out, it’s Ultra Maga, Wonder Run, Frenchman, Gorogue Laga, and Super Powers.

About The Winner- Storm Water, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by E Jaramillo, is a five year old gelding by Commanding The Storm and is out of Unlike Water. He was bred in Florida by Arindel as a third quarter two year old, and was acquired by Asgar while he was still unraced in the September 2022 auction for only $1.000. Nice! Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 15 starts, and his second stake win. His career earnings are now $270.380.
