A big day of racing here in SoFla and it doesn’t get any bigger than The FL Derby (GI) and a full gate of TC hopefuls set to go a mile and an eighth in this oh so important points race. Quick trivia question – how many times has Mb Stables won this race? The answer will confound you! Now, let’s get to the matter at hand, which way do we go in this one?

My probable top pick has already been scratched, so… let’s move along. I’ll go with a hot barn and a hot horse and take Daemon as the top pick today. Five wins from six starts… finally, everyone woke up last time and made him the 2/1 favorite. He’s proven himself at every asking… I see another win today, and if so, he’s gotta be the post time favorite for the KYD.

I’m going to put Tropical Surge in the second spot, but he’s a front runner that seems to need the lead to be at his best. A nice second after setting the pace in the Fountain of Youth (GII) over this track, and you know me and the home cookin’ side of things. His build says he wants to go longer, but is the front end his only way?

I’m going to use Legalise on my ticket… only a maiden win, but he’s just wanting for the distance and always seems to be in the picture when they hit the wire. He may bring some value to the ticket, along with the idea that he’s a horse that is due to get a win.

What we know is the winner of this race will stamp their ticket… the points say that will happen, and that’s what makes these races so much fun to watch… now, let’s watch Mb defy my words and win this.
