Limestone Turf Sprint
KEE Race #4 5 1/2f Turf Stake
Purse $300.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Categorical Decision Asgar Gutierrez Mario 120 —
She moved from dirt sprinting to turf sprinting to capture two ungraded stakes, the last being the Sweet Life at SA. In her last start she was tested over ground in the FL Oaks but never really got into the race ending up 6th so it is back in trip today and her chances seem obvious. She has gone on pace and off pace so her running style is pace dictated rather than positionally dictated and that can be an advantage from this ace gate as she will have to do no work to find the rail.
2 Shine To Class Our Athletes Geroux F 120 —
It is always great to see an unbeaten horse at HRP and this one’s record stands at three for three after a game dead heat on an off track last time. This, in fairness, is a big step up for the filly, but she is fast and knows how to win so this step had to come at some point. Her last public work was a bit sluggish, but it is hard to read anything into works these days so taking that stat out of the equation she could be on speed here from an ideal draw and really could be anything at this point.
3 Queen Mia Red Fox Farms Lopez P 120 —
Comes back to black type here after a couple of runs to give her some confidence at overnight level. Her run in the BC Juvenile Sprint was only fair last year, tenth but only beaten two lengths she will have to step up on that effort. In a field that lacks a little bit of depth she certainly cannot be left out of calculations.
4 We Lost In Music Alydar Stables Espinoza V 120 —
On some efforts this one would be among the favorites for this race but on others she falls back into the pack. In her last start in an FG allowance over this trip she was very good accounting for a competitive field with relative ease, but she was a little ordinary in the start before when behind Categorical Decision in the Sweet Life. A grade three winner, she certainly has the class factor but will need to sprint well today to keep up early on.
5 My Beautiful Ballon Maxmillion Farm Hernandez R M 120 —
On balance she may be the best filly in this race as a grade three winner of the Matron over a sprint trip. On a comparable line with We Lost In Music she was second in an FG allowance over this trip and ran a little slower than that filly but that was a seasonal debut, so she was entitled to be a bit rusty. With the probable favorites outside her she has a good chance to hold them off the rail and grab the win.
6 Power Grab Maxmillion Farm Lezcano J 120 —
Ran as a deep closer for Team 7 Illusions but changed to an on-speed type for the new owner to break her maiden at the end of last year. Good efforts in a couple of tough SA optional claimers since there is no doubt she has ability, but this is a step up in class we won’t know that she can take until they cross the line.
7 People Easer Mb Stables Franco M 120 —
A good second in the FL Oaks in her first run over a trip she is quickly shifted back to sprinting here. Behind My Beautiful Ballon in the Matron, she went on to an all the way win in the Stewart Manor afterwards with a change of tactics which have seen her improved. She may take some outside speed push here and cross them and she is certainly good enough to lead all the way.
8 Piatt Royalty Stables Velazquez J R 120 —
A consistent filly over any trip, she gets the car park here, but she has been here before and run well so I am not sure it is too much of a negative. A nose behind Categorical Decision in the Sweet Life where those two fillies raced in identical draws as they do today so she must have a great chance of top three.
SUMMARY
There are several form lines here that interconnect through the Sweet Life and The Matron and into the FL Oaks. Through those form lines My Beautiful Ballon comes out on top and she will be my tip for this ahead of People Easer and Categorical Decision.
