We head out to SoCal for Sunday sod stakes action and look at the field of ten set to go a flat mile in the American Stakes (GIII).  The weights are even, so nothing to see there, and it’s not like any of these has a long list of top-notch efforts, of late… but Whipped did win last out and beat a few of these, taking the Appleton at GP, so let’s look for him to repeat.  He was a bargain buy at the Smokey Stover Dispersal sale and has run well since The Sidley Stud took over training duties.  Nice closing fourth on the dirt at SUN vs stakes types, then the win at GP… he looks ready to run big again in this one.

Green Flag is an interesting one to me, running third over this course in the San Marcos (GIII) then missed the board in the Sensational Star, on the downhill… neither of those are exactly what this one wants, in my opinion, but the mile seems to be something he loves.

I’ll put Prestigious Freak in the third spot, that one was the runner up to the top pick in the Appleton and won at the distance/course in an OptAlw race, to kick off his ’25 campaign.  His best could certainly land him in the winner’s circle.
