Just Six Go for a Good Purse in Bewitch

Bewitch – Grade III
KEE Race #4 1 1/2m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $350.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

1 Stellar Agent Night Rider Stables Espinoza V 123 —

The seven-year-old has been a good servant to the stable and looked to have lost none of her zip on seasonal debut when a strong second in the Santa Ana. Suited by this trip and the grass she will be doing her best work late and must be considered a good win chance.

2 Ginger Lucy The Sidley Stud Velazquez J R 123 —

She is the in-form mare for sure taking the Orchid last time over this trip. She has been really consistent over a long career and like the mare inside her loves the trip and the surface. Drawn well, today’s jockey won the Stall Memorial on her two back and will look to secure future rides today.

3 The Great White Mo Mentum Farm Corrales G 123 —

The lightly raced four-year-old didn’t break her maiden until January of this year but has gone from strength to strength since running a close third in the Sand Springs last time. Whilst some here are more established in this sort of grade, she is the improver and will have plenty of support.

4 Sychotic D J C Racing Stables Lopez P 123 —

Bought at auction from Fractious, she was tried straight away in the Valley View by her new owner and ran pretty well to be fourth. Since then, she has been sprinting which wouldn’t be a natural trip for a horse that is trying to run 12 furlongs, but as we know the trip and performance mean little and, I would imagine she will see the trip out just fine. I like the rider booking and she may be the dark horse in the field.

5 Exulted Rene TwinTowersRacing – Scratch – 123 —

6 Be Exceptional TwinTowersRacing Geroux F 123 —

The five-year-old is probably the best of these as the winner of the Flower Bowl last year. She won the La Prevoyante Handicap on seasonal debut in a good weight carrying performance and then ran third in the Hillsborough last time behind two of the best mares in the game. Best on speed, she will be hard to get past.

7 The Desire Sheffler Stables Pedroza M Jr 123 —

A decent type, she comes here off a win in the Benson Memorial last time after a good three-year-old campaign saw her close up in the SAR Oaks and the DG Oaks. Her best efforts have come over longer trips but her form is a little muddied due to some sprint runs, and I feel we will see the best of her today.

SUMMARY

A tight little race, but I think Be Exceptional has the class to come out on top. Ginger Lucy is the in-form runner and should place but there isn’t too much to choose here between the best and the worst.
