American Generals Marchs to Victory in The Louisville

  5   The Louisville (GIII)

$250.000      4yo&Up   11/2 Mile   Turf       122lbs

It took a new stakes record to get the job done in Saturday’s Louisville (GIII), here in… Louisville… but American Generals was sent off as the nearly even money favorite for a reason.  When the dirt clods settled, the Riggins Racing owned gelding was a quarter length in front and took his fourth win from five starts (the other was a runner-up effort in a GI) and stamped himself as one of the best turf males going… and when the only horse on the WR list is your stable-mate… that’s good news for this barn.  Continuing to use his stalk and pounce method, the 5yo gelded son of Generals Opus – American Kitty, by Residue, landed his twelfth lifetime victory from twenty-five starts, and now shows earnings of $1,211.880.  Congrats to the Connections

Spankys Barn lands the second spot as pace-setter Reinvestment tried to carry the torch the entire mile and a half, but was overtaken at the sixteenth pole, and battled on well to the finish.  Kegger from the Ajm Stables was a length back in third and Well Done from the Team 7 Illusions barn took the minor money.  Seven lengths covered the field of six and there were no scratches.  The final running time lowered the stakes record to 2:24.20 for the mile and a half, and the turf was Firm.
