ET Mint Julep Handicap – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $250.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Beach Body TwinTowersRacing Franco M —
Well, as usual this handicap was about which bottom weight would win despite the handicap being little more than a bag of sugar. Consistency was key here as this honest type set about her race in her usual fashion, right up in contention throughout and in the end holding on by a game nose after a stretch battle. On-speed has definitely worked well over the weekend and so she had the right running style for the race and proved just too good. Her last three efforts have been improving so there may be more to come from this homebred.
2nd The Desire Sheffler Stables Pedroza M Jr —
The two higher weights, despite superior form, just couldn’t pull it off but this filly very nearly did with a determined finish which saw her go down by the narrowest of margins. She continues to be a bit of a bridesmaid and though she beat the winner two back the extra two pounds seemed like an anchor for her today.
3rd Jacqui Alydar Stables Curtis B 0.55 —
The filly with the best form battled very bravely after running right up on-speed but the 4Lbs she had to give the winner was too much in the end. Going down by just a half-length she did very well and considering HRP’s weight bias and ran a very good race.
4th McCaskill Royalty Stables Lopez P 10.30 —
Used her low weight to force the pace in a race dominated by on speed. She held onto the rail but in the end the effort was too much as she faded in the final furlong to be fourth. This was still a much-improved effort by the filly, and I think she is heading in the right direction.
