Disciplinary Punishes the Field in The Salvator Mile

The Salvator Mile (Grade 3)- $150.000 Purse
MTH- For Three Year Olds and Upward
One Mile on the Dirt
June 14, 2025

We would see rain on Saturday at MTH, and it would leave the main track muddy for the day of racing. That would not lead to any scratches in the Salvator Mile, as all nine of our runners would brave the elements and made their way to the starting gate. Taking home the win in wire-to-wire fashion would be Disciplinary, for Nakamura Stables. It’s the fourth win in five starts for the six-year-old8uu, but the lone stake win of that stretch. It’s the second win in the race for Nakamura Stables, who previously won in 2021 with the late Delaware Warrior. F Jara was the winning rider, and it is his first such win. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:37.74, and it was the first time that this was run on a muddy track. Let’s take a look at how it happened!

(1/4 Mile- :23.37)- Disciplinary jumps right out to the lead for Nakamura Stables, but our eventual winner does have some company, as Jediminds Stable’s Continuously is within a half-length to his inside. It’s a break of a length and a half to where we find the next group of horses, and it’s four of them running alongside one another. Apocalpytic, from D J C Racing Stables, had a head in front of the others, with Imposing Scenario next while on the rail for The Sidley Stud. Bigking’s Fire Chase is between these two, while Snip That Thing is on the outside for Night Rider Stables. After another length and a half, Buckeep Farm’s Horse Ventura is next on the rail, with the Nynl Stables- trained Thx not surprisingly running near the back of the field early on. Puppy Plex, out of Riggins Racing, is the early trailer.

(½ Mile- :47.49)- Down the backstretch, Disciplinary is able to get clear of Continuously, and is by himself out front at the midway point. Continuously is content to stalk him now, running a length ahead of the group of three right behind him. Apocalyptic is third while on the outside, slightly ahead of Fire Chase, who has the same narrow advantage on Imposing Scenario. Further back, Horse Ventura and Thx, two horses that made late runs in the Westchester last month, are likely planning to do the same thing again. Puppy Plex can see them all in front of him.

(Top of Stretch, 1.6F To Go)- Disciplinary looks good out in front, but Nakamura Stables knows there are several historic late runners in this crowd, so he’s not going to celebrate yet. For now, it’s Disciplinary with Fire Chase inheriting the second position after Continuously calls it day. Apocalyptic is now a length behind that one, losing some ground in the turn. Imposing Scenario ran evenly but had no excuses with a clear rail at this point. Further back, watching Horse Ventura and Thx find their lanes, Horse Ventura was able to come through the middle of the field while Thx had no choice but to move about five wide into the turn to keep from running into the tiring Snip That Thing. Puppy Plex still had not begun making a run yet.

(Finish- 1:37.74)- With a furlong to go, Disciplinary had done exactly what he needed to do, pulling out to a big enough lead at the top of the stretch to give him a nice cushion while not overexerting himself. Therefore, he had just enough in the stretch to win rather comfortably, by a full length over Fire Chase. That one narrowly held off the charge of Horse Ventura, while Thx has to essentially run in the center of the track and gives his trainer the fourth-place spoils. Apocalyptic is fifth, ahead of Imposing and the disappointing Puppy Plex. Continously and Snip That Thing found their way to the back.

About The Winner- Disciplinary, trained by Nakamura Stables and ridden to victory by F Jara, is a six-year-old horse by Commanding and is out of Chesty Bestie. He was bred in Ontario by Tiratzo as a yearling, and was acquired by Nakamura Stables, via Fractious, for $225.000 in a February 2022 private sale. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his eleventh in 40 starts, his third stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $781.180.
