Great Lady M Stakes – Grade II
LA Race #2 6 1/2f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.
1 Broadway Heiress Glorify Stables Laprida J 123 —
A decent field of sprinters come to LA and whilst the jockey population isn’t stellar for a grade two race the race itself looks pretty competitive. This none race winning five-year-old races from the ace gate which will suit her on pace running style and there would be no surprise in seeing a repeat of her Whimsical Stakes win two back. The pace was a bit hotter last time and she found it too tough at the end of the Winning Colors but that was an anomaly in her otherwise solid and consistent form, so I am willing to overlook it.
2 Tracking Device Spankys Barn Ayuso A 123 —
A fairly lightly raced and consistent sort, she stalked the lead last time for a strong win in the Desert Stormer and gets a nice draw for similar tactics today. She has come up a bit short in this company before but as a four-year-old is entitled to be improving and that last effort certainly felt like she was a winning chance.
3 Bla Bla Bla TwinTowersRacing Hernandez J J 123 —
Generally, a late closer and that would explain her poor hit rate, but she is capable of a good finish if the race engine allows and she showed that when winning the Cornucopia Stakes at the end of last year. There will be plenty of pace on here and she could just take advantage of that late.
4 Suspicion Avenue Z Kimura K 123 —
Turned her good overnight form into a strong win in the Skipat Stakes last time and is another four-year-old who looks to be coming to her peak. I like her chances today although she gets a sticky mid pack draw so things will need to go her way.
5 Racing Tipster Williams9 Valdivia J Jr 123 —
Second in last years BC Fillies and Mares Sprint, a repeat of that effort makes her the clear winner today. Bought from Fractious when that stable left the first time for $355.090, she looked worth every cent when a close third in the La Brea next out but has been a little disappointing since. Form this year has been skewed by the number of wet tracks we have seen so her last three starts may have excuses, but I will need to see some of the old sparkle before getting back in her camp.
6 Military Made Spb Racing Frey K 123 —
This six-year-old has won eleven of her thirty starts, so demands plenty of respect in an open looking field. Disappointing when stretched out last time, she had previously narrowly missed in the Vagrancy Handicap and had proved her sprinting ability in the Las Flores Stakes at the start of the year. Back on a trip that will suit her better, there is no reason she can’t be in at the end.
7 My Pretty Threshold Alsagoor A 123 —
She has taken a step back in grade after being a little disappointing at the start of the year and if her confidence is back there is no reason she can’t be in it at the sharp end.
8 Decimas Queen Maxmillion Farm Maldonado E 123 —
The grade one Hirsch winner and runner up in the KY Oaks comes back to sprinting today in an effort to get her back in the winning groove. As this is HRP the trip means little to a class horse and this is doubtless a filly with plenty of class. Her sprint works are of course as good as the sprinters, and she is proven over pretty much every trip so there is no reason the trainer cannot continue to add to their huge haul of stakes wins. She could be the one to take advantage of what will be, in all probability, a crazy early pace.
SUMMARY
This race looks like it will be fast and furious early on with the likelihood of a closer coming late to beat the weakening leaders. The only two real closers in the field are Decimas Queen and Bla Bla Bla so I will be selecting one of those to win in what will be a tactical farce.
