Once again, we saw the older generation prevail but what made this win all the more impressive was that this gelding won with top weight. That may have just been two pounds more than the bottom weight, but we all know these handicaps are tough to win with top weight regardless of the difference. So, this one claimed from the free track and switched to the dirt got home by a half-length in a messy race and is a real testament to the brilliant decision this trainer made back in February. The trainer has made ten times their purchase price and this is another good example of the possibilities of picking up that diamond in the rough.

2nd Mr Toxic Spankys Barn Gaffalione T

Stalked the lead and then went to win his race in the stretch but was run down close home, I feel this one is a miler at heart, but he is a real honest type who has really found his form late in life and looks to have plenty more miles on the clock.

3rd One Last Punch Line Saratoga Stud Corbett G W

Ran well to be third but just couldn’t cope with the finish in the end after running from a wide gate. This was his best effort for the new trainer though and one feels that it won’t take much for him to finish paying off his debt.

4th Want Rum Mo Mentum Farm Beschizza A

The strong early pace meant that those that closed up to challenge early were caught out late and this was one of those. Having said that this is his first run since being taken out of a claimer so the trainer won’t be too unhappy.
