Spin Zone Gives Mb Stables Fifth Straight Quick Call Win

The Quick Call (Grade 3)- $175.000 Purse
SAR- For Three Year Olds
Five and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
July 13, 2025

You don’t have to spin much to talk about how dominant Mb Stables has been in the Quick Call. He came into the race having won the prior four editions, and now with his horse Spin Zone, that streak is now five. He was made the slight post time favorite for the race and was among our selections though not the top choice. It’s the second win in three starts for Spin Zone, and the sixth overall for Mb Stables. J R Velazquez is the winning rider, doing so for the third time. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:02.10, the second quickest in the history of the race. Let’s take a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :22.33)- Ineedu2party is the quickest out of the gate, and the Maxmillion Farm entry will be clear by a length down the backstretch and moving into the top of the turn. Tank Davis holds the rail in second for Royalty Stables, and has Lost On The Moon, from Santan Stables, to his outside. In the middle of the pack, King Mb Reject runs fourth for Arindel, half a length ahead of the eventual winner from Mb Stables, Spin Zone, who is to his inside. Royalty Stables’ Inoue runs three wide here. From there, it’s a break of about two lengths to Golden Missile (Team 7 Illusions), and trailing the field, it’s Rolling Pin (Lemax Farms).

(½ Mile- :45.00, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Entering the stretch, Ineedu2party continues to show the way and looked to be in pretty good shape at this point. Tank Davis is about three quarter of length back in second, and Lost On The Moon is beginning to lose touch with that one. On the rail, Spin Zone is creeping forward in a methodical manner, with about two lengths to make up but having a clear enough lane in front of him. He’s passed King Mb Reject, but Inoue is also running well to the outside and looks like a formidable challenger. At the back, Golden Missile was waiting a while to begin his own move, and Rolling Pin had even more work to do.

(Finish- 1:02.10)- The final furlong is where Spin Zone would be at his best. Tank Davis would be the stronger of the two frontrunners, as Ineedu2party showed signs of fatigue in the very late stages. Inoue was also one to keep an eye on, but Spin Zone clearly had the strongest leg kick as we got closer to the wire, and he would go on to win by nearly a full length. Royalty Stables gets second and third as Inoue slides by Tank Davis very late. Golden Missile, from way back, caught Ineedu2party for what’s officially a fourth-place dead heat. The remaining order will read Lost On The Moon, King Mb Reject, and Rolling Pin.

About The Winner- Spin Zone, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a three-year-old gelding by Championship Rounds and is out of More Spin. He was bred in Ontario as a first quarter two-year-old by Mb Stables, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in nine starts, his third stake win and first graded win! His career earnings are now $435.940.
