Credit Crime Still Can’t Be Caught, Wins The CCA Oaks

The CCA Oaks (Grade 1)- $500.000 Purse
SAR- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
July 19, 2025

We saw Credit Crime run here at the Spa last month, when she took on the boys and ended up running third in the BEL. When running against her own gender, she has been particular tough, winning the KYO among other highlights. For some reason, she would be made a 10/1 shot in the morning line, but the people were not fooled and ultimately made her the 2/1 post-time favorite. With regular rider I Ortiz Jr aboard, this great filly took care of business for her eighth career win. She is trained by Aer Stables, and it is his second win the CCA Oaks, with the prior win coming in 2016 with Dirty Deeds. I Ortiz Jr was the rider that day as well and has three wins in this race overall. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:48.19, which is among the better winning times of the race. Let’s have a look at it now:

(½ Mile- :47.46)- Este Nocha, trained by D J C Racing Stables, would be the fastest out of the gate and would lead down the front stretch and into the clubhouse turn. It would be then where she was passed by Soliloquy Sunset, out of Nakamura Stables, and she would be the leader at a half mile. Este Nocha settles into second, a length back, and has two running within a length to her inside. Heart of Joy and Thousand Hours, respectively out of Royalty Stables and Mb Stables are those two horses, and it’s a gap of nearly three lengths to the rest of the field. Our eventual winner of Aer Stables, Credit Crime, will lead the second half of the field while having TwinTowersRacing’s Aye Eye to her inside. At the back, Creepy Runner Party (Mb Stables) and Nice Cat (BomBay Stables) run together.

(3/4 Mile- 1:11.61)- Soliloquy Sunset is all by herself as she moves into the turn with a lead of about a length and a half over a three wide battle for second. Thousand Hours, who is between horses, has a head in front here while Heart Of Joy is on the rail and Este Nocha is on the outside. Credit Crime has gotten a little closer to those three than she had been previously, and has left Aye Eye, Creepy Runner Party, and Nice Cat well behind her here.

(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Soliloquy Sunset is looking to finish this off all the wire to the wire, as she maintains a good stride into the stretch. Thousand Hours is now a clear second, as both Hearts Of Joy and Este Nocha are no longer able to keep up with her. This sets up nicely for Credit Crime, as she can simply follow Thousand Hours on exit of the turn and into the stretch while passing those two others. Further back, Creepy Runner Party is looking good but will probably regret letting Credit Crime put more distance between them at the top of the turn. Aye Eye and Nice Cat are not showing much.

(Finish- 1:48.19)- With a furlong to go, Soliloquy Sunset was still running well, but Credit Crime had much more saved up and was about to show it. At this stage of the race, she was clearly the best, finding speed that Soliloquy Sunset would have no answer for. Getting closer to the wire, she’d have the lead and would go on to get the win by a comfortable half length. Soliloquy Sunset was never in danger of losing another position and completes the exacta. Creepy Runner Party ran well late, but conceded too much ground early, and must settle for third. Thousand Hours takes the fourth-place check, ahead of Heart Of Joy, Este Nocha, Nice Cat, and Aye Eye.

About The Winner- Credit Crime, trained by Aer Stables and ridden to victory by I Ortiz Jr, is a three-year-old filly by War Chant and is out of Yuhwa. She was bred by Aer Stables in Ontario as a yearling, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her eighth in 13 starts, her seventh stake win and sixth graded win. Her career earnings are now $2,860.550.
