Hawaiian Lord Reigns Again in The Fourstardave Handicap

The Fourstardave Handicap (Grade 1) (BC)- $750.000 Purse
SAR- For Four Year Olds and Upward
One Mile on the Inner Turf
August 2, 2025

Hawaiian Lord made history on Saturday, becoming the first horse to win the Fourstardave Handicap more than once as he successfully defended his crown as the race’s champion! This victory gets him the winner’s share of the $750.000 purse and the coveted spot in the BC Mile. Hawaiian Lord had not won a race since last year’s edition but would make Fourstardave proud by finding success once again here at SAR. He is trained by Our Athletes, who now wins the race for the second time. Hawaiian Lord, who was our pick to win, utilized a different jockey this time around, as F Geroux was aboard for his first such win. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:32.01, quicker than his time last year, and the second fastest in the race’s history when run at a mile. Let’s take a look at how it happened:

(1/4 Mile- :22.64)- It’s Excoriator out in front early, but the Jerry Garcia Racing entry does have some company as the post time favorite from Maxmillion Farm runs to his inside. Rearranger stalks the pace while running on the outside for Mb Stables, while Misting does the same for Winning Link Stables along the rail. There’s a break of about two and a half lengths to the fifth-place horse, and that’s our eventual winner from Our Athletes, Hawaiian Lord, and he has TwinTowersRacing’s Derby Dreams beside him. Lifeline (D J C Racing Stables) is next in line, and it’s a sluggish start for On Fire (Mb Stables) at the back.

(½ Mile- :45.72)- Rearranger is not going to wait around to make his move to the lead and will do that while running three wide early in the backstretch. Prince Ferro takes second while on the rail, and Excoriator is still only a half-length back, while between horses in third. Misting is content to continue to stalk the frontrunners, and the same gap exists behind him to Hawaiian Lord and Derby Dreams. Hawaiian Lord is formally scored as being four lengths back. There’s about two to Lifeline, while On Fire continues to trail.

(Top of The Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Things get interesting right at the top of the turn, as Misting comes off the rail to move four wide in hopes of getting by the front three. Among those early frontrunners, Prince Ferro is looking the best for now as Excoriator runs in second. Rearranger is still with them for now but does not seem as strong. As this was going on, Hawaiian Lord makes an emphatic push forward as he looks to win this race again and will need to make a five wide move while rounding the turn. He handles it well and is now only a length behind the leaders and looking really good. Derby Dreams also pushed forward, but not quite as well as Hawaiian Lord did. Lifeline still was not showing much, and On Fire only starts to make an appearance on the viewer at this point.

(Finish- 1:32.01)- Early in the stretch, Misting was looking good as he passed the initial top three, but Hawaiian Lord was also coming on gamely. With a furlong to go, Hawaiian Lord had almost pulled even with Misting, and while that one was trying to put up a fight, Hawaiian Lord was not going to be denied as he finished this race off in the same manner he did last year, grabbing the win, and grabbing his spot in the BC Mile. Misting was good in his second-place effort, and Derby Dreams ran well to the wire to complete the trifecta. Fourth place spoils for to Excoriator, narrowly over Prince Ferro. Rounding it out are Rearranger, Lifeline, and On Fire.

About The Winner- Hawaiian Lord, trained by Our Athletes and ridden to victory by F Geroux, is a seven-year-old horse by Lord High Admiral and is out of the late Tanganyika. He was bred in Florida as a first quarter two-year-old by Our Athletes, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in 48 starts, and his two Fourstardave wins are his lone stake wins. His career earnings are now $2,574.850.
