King Edward BC Stakes – Grade II
WO Race #4 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Three-Year-Olds And Upward.
1 Giannis Riggins Racing Velazquez J R 123 —
On the face of it this six-year-old’s form may be slipping but his great effort in the Kelso last time suggests there is still something in the locker. He gets the ace draw for an in-form stable and with eleven wins and nearly $1,000.000 in the kitty he must be a chance.
2 King Luka Night Rider Stables Fukumoto D 123 —
Another older horse at seven that hasn’t looked in his best form recently, much of what I just said about Giannis could be said about him. The big contrast between the two is that although they have won almost the same in prize money this one has won just three which is eight less than the rival on his inside. Looks a big each way chance and the win wouldn’t surprise either.
3 Snidely Whiplash TwinTowersRacing Franco M 123 —
I love this one name but apart from that, he has shown plenty of improvement recently and despite having just the one win to his name is a winning chance. Beaten just a neck in the Poker Stakes two back, he was undone by the off track last time and I just have the feeling that if things go his way today, he could be picking up win number two.
4 Manly Style Springbok Racing Bocachica Ar 123 —
Lightly raced and the winner of four, this is a big step up in grade, but we have seen many times that that doesn’t mean much, and you can’t knock his recent form. This may turn out to be a step too far too soon, but he is a progressive sort and whatever he does today, he looks to have a future.
5 Rare Truth TwinTowersRacing Geroux F 123 —
Ten Turf races and never in the top three, eleven route races and never in the top three, that must make him a winning chance in this turf route! His works suggest that that form is a mockery and something about this one has an air of inevitability around it.
6 Little Doubt Blazin D Husbands P 123 —
Put in some decent efforts in graded stakes before going back to overnights and winning his last two. His form gives him a big chance, and he may well start as one of the favorites.
7 Command Class Keith Austin Inc. Curtis B 123 —
He has been consistently winning decent sprint overnights this year but has a decent route record too, so don’t let that put your off his chances. The wide gate poses problems but, on his works, and form he certainly isn’t out of this.
SUMMARY
This is an interesting race with a few promising types that have something to prove today and some old warriors with nothing to prove other than they aren’t over the hill. For some reason I have a TwinTowers exacta in my head. It just seems that sort of race where anything could win and there could be some big payouts.
