Bay Another Man Leaves Field All Wet in Simpson Stakes

Simpson Stakes (Grade 1)- $2,000.000 Purse
KD- For Three Year Olds
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 6, 2025

When we looked at the Simpson Stakes on Tuesday, it didn’t seem like rain was going to a problem, as the forecast then called for only a 32% chance of rain. Well, that chance would increase during the week, and on Saturday we were left with soft going. Not complaining about the wet weather was Bay Another Man, who’s shown he can win a big race when it was wet, but none anywhere close to being as big as the Simpson Stakes. It would not matter for this Man Childe gelding, as he ran alongside the leader early and outlasted the field to win by half a length. He is trained by Our Athletes and was ridden by B Curtis. For each, it is their first Simpson win. Congratulations to them! The time of the win on soft turf was 1:17.91. Here’s a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :23.43)- Doubting Indian is the quickest out of the gate, and the Nakamura Stables entry will lead our eventual winner of the race, the Our Athletes- trained Bay Another Man by a neck after the opening quarter mile. On the outside, Matching is right there, too, for Maxmillion Farm, as is the Spankys Barn entry, Douda, near the rail. Closely stalking these leaders are Small Things and Inoue, respectively for Mb Stables and Royalty Stables. Golden Missile (Team 7 Illusions) and Minding Q (Mb Stables) are within a length on the outside. Running next are Edged Out (TwinTowersRacing) and Smokin Commander (Red Fox Farms), and they are only three and a half lengths from the lead. At the back are Rolling Rolling (High Voltage) and Smokin Yankee (Maxmillion Farm).

(½ Mile- :47.32, Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Bay Another Man would pull up right alongside Doubting Indian about midway through the turn and would creep ahead of him by a full length by the time they entered the top of the stretch. Doubting Indian still holds the second spot, with Douda able to keep pace on the rail. The same cannot be said for Matching, who loses some ground. Inoue puts Small Things away and now pulls up to the outside of Matching looking to make up more ground in the stretch. Not much was seen out of Edged Out, Golden Missile, or Minding Q, and Smokin Commander was lost a spot to Rolling Rolling. Smokin Yankee continued to trail the field.

(Finish- 1:17.91)- Bay Another Man takes command into the stretch and pulls away from the field, looking to comfortably take home this win all the wire. Or so we may have thought! Inoue was not about to let it be easy for the leader, showing a lot of resiliency and made up ground quickly in the closing moments. Fortunately for Our Athletes, and unfortunately for Royalty Stables, the wire would come up in time to see Bay Another Man get the victory by half a length. Edged Out was full of run late but hit his best stride too late to get more than the third-place finish. Douda takes fourth, with Rolling Rolling also moving forward to be fifth. It was a length and a half to the rest of the field, with the remaining order being Minding Q, Doubting Indian, Matching, Smokin Commander, Smokin Yankee, Golden Missile, and Small Things.

About The Winner- Bay Another Man, trained by Our Athletes and ridden to victory by B Curtis, is a three-year-old gelding by Man Childe and is out of Awesome Bay. He was bred by Our Athletes in Ontario as a first quarter two-year-old and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in 10 starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $1,366.020.
