The Mint Million – Grade III
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $2,500.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Oh Brother Spankys Barn Gaffalione T
A wet track muddied the waters a bit in this race but this six-year-old is a big day sort of horse and captured his third grade one with a strong finish. Just behind them last year in the BC Mile, he will head there again and may even be racing a little better this year, so he may just get the BC title he probably deserves.
2nd Hawaiian Lord Our Athletes Geroux F
Using the wide gate speed push, he went on-speed and had made the lead by halfway. He battled on very bravely but just couldn’t hold the winner going down by a half-length at the post. This horse is the perennial bridesmaid, a title that can be detrimental but in his case, I use it with admiration as he scored his 18th second place which must be somewhere near a record.
3rd Sick Boi Royalty Stables Curtis B
As expected, the wide gate sent him all the way back, but he doesn’t mind a wet track and that showed as he made up a ton of ground in the stretch and was only beaten a length in the end. His running style on this engine is severely penalized but, on his day, when conditions and pace suit, he is very good.
4th Seven Is Lucky Mb Stables Franco M
Sat in a loose stalk and kept on pretty well for fourth in what was his best effort for a while.
