Maxmillion Farm brought two strong entries into the SA Sprint Championship, and both of them were a part of our pre-race picks. While one of them may not have had one of his better races, Creepy Romantic has the trainer living the high life as he grabs the win, and all of the spoils that go with it. It’s the third straight win for Creepy Romantic, and he was coming into this off a victory in the Vanderbilt Handicap, so he is certainly getting hot at the right time. It’s the first win for Maxmillion Farm, and jockey Ro Maragh in this stake. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:08.67, which is among the better such times. Let’s take a look at it: Should mention that our pick to finish second, Dorian Gray, ended up being a late scratch.
(1/4 Mile- :22.07)- Only Way Is Up is up front for The Sidley Stud early on, a length ahead of a three wide group of stalkers that sees our eventual winner, Maxmillion Farm’s Creepy Romantic, running on the outside and in a very good position. To his inside are YME Stable’s Senor Vinagre Y Agua and Royalty Stables’ Pincay, while John Henry’s Shake It Up And Go is a length behind them. Nearby, and running in outside lanes are Lennon and Chisel, respectively trained by Mb Stables and Pan Farms. It’s another length to Elvis Lives Party (Mb Stables) and High Time (Maxmillion Farm), then So Slick (Asgar), and Investment Center (TwinTowersRacing).
(½ Mile- :45.02, Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Around the turn, and into the stretch, Only Way Is Up is still in the lead and holding his length advantage, but the stalkers right behind him are not going anywhere. With Shake It Up And Go inching a little closer, it’s now four wide for second with Creepy Romantic running in the outside line and still positioned well to make a run. Senor Vinagre Y Agua and Pincay are still the two the inside, and each had a good shot of their own. A little further back, Lennon takes it wide as he looks to make his own run. Elvis Lives Party runs evenly, while Chisel starts to back out. So Slick is hitting his best stride but has a lot of horses to pass in the stretch to make it happen. High Time didn’t have it today, and Investment Center wasn’t doing anything at the back.
(Finish- 1:08.67)- With a furlong to go, Only Way Is Up was trying to show heart all the wire, but they were getting closer, with Senor Vinagre Y Agua starting to look like he was going to have the best shot, but Creepy Romantic had plenty left as well, fighting that one for second as they each looked to catch the leader. Lennon’s outside bid was progressing, and So Slick was full of run, but the wall in front of him was going to make it difficult. Coming to the wire, Creepy Romantic took the top spot, and looked to bring it home, but So Slick was absolutely determined. Now, he had to make a sharp move to go about seven wide, and he nearly made it happen. In the end, it is Creepy Romantic grabbing the win and the BC Sprint, and with the way his second-place run went, So Slick should be given an honorary BC spot for that effort. Lennon grabs third late, and a fourth-place dead heat was declared between Senor Vinagre Y Agua and Shake It Up And Go. Pincay is the best of the rest, topping Only Way Is Up, Elvis Lives Party, High Time, Investment Center, and Chisel.
About The Winner- Creepy Romantic, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by Ro Maragh, is a four-year-old gelding by Creepy Rene and is out of the late Romantics. He was bred by Arkansas Elite in New York as a first quarter two-year-old, and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm, via Broken Spoke Stables, for $150.000 in an April 2024 private sale. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in 18 starts, his third stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $624.830.
