Zenyatta Stakes (Grade 2) (BC)- $200.000 Purse
SA- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
September 28, 2025
The last time that Spring Street ran here at SA, she won the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes in April and was hoping that a return to the track would lead to her formally getting a spot in the BC Distaff. The track’s been kind to over the course of her career, and it would be again, with a fantastic stretch performance to grab the win. Her coming from well off the pace is nothing new to her, but even the trainer, High Voltage, had to wonder if it was too tall of a task for his mare as they entered the stretch. The victory is the first in the race for both High Voltage, and for jockey F Prat. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:41.53, which is among the better winning times. Here’s a look at how it happened!
(1/4 Mile- :22.86)- Reflex Action is the early race leader for The Sidley Stud, but she does have Spankys Barn’s Tracking Device to her inside into the opening turn. Boardwalk Authority runs third while on the outside for Winning Link Stables, a length ahead of The Sidley Stud’s Whoop Whoop, then it’s Viking Cat (Bigchief Stables). In the middle of pack, Shes A Looker (Nakamura Stables) takes an outside lane, a length ahead of three wide group, consisting of Jawaher (D J C Racing Stables), Wavy Girl (Saratoga Stud), and Valkyria (Alydar Stables). It’s length from them to Exulted Rene (TwinTowersRacing), and another to Flyingbolt (Mo Mentum Farm). At the back, trailing by seven all by herself is our eventual winner from High Voltage, Spring Street.
(½ Mile- :46.27)- Tracking Device passes Reflex Action to her inside while in the backstretch, and these two have about a two-length cushion on Boardwalk Authority, with Whoop Whoop and Viking Cat next in line. Shes A Looker drops back a tad and now has Wavy Girl right beside her. Jawaher is next on the rail, followed by Valkyria, with Exulted Rene and Flyingbolt even further back. Trailing the entire field, ten lengths behind the frontrunners is Spring Street.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- After letting Tracking Device have some time with the lead, Reflex Action reclaims the top spot and will lead around the turn and into the stretch. Tracking Device is showing signs of fatigue, and Boardwalk Authority takes over the second position while only being length behind the leader. Certainly, she was in a great spot at this point of the race. Whoop Whoop and Viking Cat are next, but neither had made a push as of yet. The field tightens up in the heart of the pack, as Jawaher, Wavy Girl, and even Shes A Looker tried to stay in contention and in position to make a run of their own. Meanwhile, midway through the turn, our deep closer, Spring Street, sprang into action and was making up a lot of ground. Still just tenth in the running order, there looked to be room developing for a run close to the rail and F Prat looked to capitalize.
(Finish- 1:41.53)- With a furlong to go, Reflex Action and Boardwalk Authority were battling it out for the lead, but the action to be tracking was further back, as Spring Street was able to move to the rail. Still, she had a lot of horses to pass, and a lot of ground to make up on a couple up front that weren’t exactly showing signs of tiring. Her closing kick was incredible, making the others seem like they were running in slow motion, as between a furlong to a half a furlong to go, she was third in a blink of an eye, and only about two lengths left to make up. Boardwalk Authority had prevailed over Reflex Action but had this new concern coming at her quickly. There would be no let up all the way to the wire for Spring Street, as she completes the comeback that sends her to the BC Distaff. Boardwalk Authority did everything right, just had no answer for that run, and settles for second. Reflex Action takes third over Wavy Girl, and it was a tight for fourth with Valkyria having the upper hand on Jawaher and Tracking Device. Rounding it out, it’s Exulted Rene, Whoop Whoop, Flyingbolt, Shes A Looker, and Viking Cat.
About The Winner- Spring Street, trained by High Voltage and ridden to victory by F Prat, is a five-year-old mare by Miles Per Gallon and is out of Limonata. She was bred by London Racing in California as a third quarter two-year-old and was acquired by High Voltage while she was still unraced for $140.000 in an October 2022 private sale. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in 27 starts, and her fifth stake win, all of which are graded. Her career earnings are now $1,101.600.
