Rain would fall at WO on Saturday, leaving the track as muddy and leading to one scratch, giving us a field of eight. The weather would not spoil the day of Glee, the post time favorite who was also our pick to win, as he showed everyone why that was the case as he just barely held off the charge of upset-minded Mystic Freak Party to get the win. Glee, who was claimed by trainer Night Rider Stables just six months ago for $7.500 is a fitting winner on a day that the Claiming Crown races are going on down at CD. Glee had run third in both the Forego and the Phoenix, making him the favorite here, and he had been decent in off tracks start in the past. His win gives Night Rider Stables his first win in the race, and it is the third such win for jockey E J Wilson. Congratulations to them! The time of the win in the mud was 1:11.30. Let’s take a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :22.78)- The Mb Stables trained Elvis Lives Party jumps out to the lead in the backstretch by almost a full length over John Henry’s Wyatt Langmore, who is to his inside. Mr Cockypants will run directly behind Elvis Lives Party in third for La Canada Racehorses, while closer to the rail, our eventual winner from Night Rider Stables, Glee, runs evenly with The Sidley Stud’s Only Way Is Up. Behind them, our remaining three horses run alongside one another, who from inside to outside, consist of Big Turkey (Asgar), Mystic Freak Party (Maxmillion Farm), and Admiral Knight (TwinTowersRacehorses).

(½ Mile- :46.66, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Elvis Lives Party is able to inch further away from Wyatt Langmore at the top of the turn. As they reach its midway point, we begin to see the field fanning out as jockey look for the best lanes to take. This was set up well for Mr Cockypants, who could hold his line since Elvis Lives Party moved closer to the rail. Mr Cockypants was in good stride and would actually have a nose in front entering the top of the stretch. There was an opening between them, and it was right in front of Glee, putting him in a great spot to pounce in the stretch. Wyatt Langmore and Only Way Is Up were still in the mix at this point, and further back, Admiral Knight looked to make a four wide run. We hadn’t seen much out of Big Turkey, and Mystic Freak Party was still about three lengths back.

(Finish- 1:11.30)- Early in the stretch, Glee would indeed take advantage of the opening right in front of him and would push forward. This would be made easier as Elvis Lives Party soon looked like he had enough. Only Way Is Up, Admiral Knight and Mystic Freak Party were heads apart for fourth with a little less than a furlong to go, and now the opening between frontrunners was there for Mystic Freak Party to capitalize on. He did all he could, and approaching the wire, Glee would complete the pass of Mr Cockypants, who had maintained a steady stride up to this point. Mystic Freak Party still had time, and did all he could, but Glee would be resilient to hold him off once the stewards examined a close photo. An impressive victory for Glee! Mr Cockypants takes third behind Mystic Freak Party, with the fourth-place check going to Admiral Knight who was on the far outside. Big Turkey gets up for fifth, beating Only Way Is Up, Elvis Lives Party, and Wyatt Langmore.

About The Winner- Glee, trained by Night Rider Stables and ridden to victory E J Wilson, is a five-year-old gelding by Supercomplication and is out of the late Gleem. He was bred in Kentucky by Team 7 Illusions as a second quarter two-year-old and was acquired by Night Rider Stables with a $7.500 claim in May of this year. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his ninth in 28 starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $337.900.
