Clarendon Stakes
$150.000 Two Year Olds Foaled in ON
Six Furlongs Dirt
Woodbine November 23, 2025
This year’s edition of the Ontario bred Clarendon Stakes has drawn a small field of five consisting of horses from three stables vying for the $150.000 purse. Two horses in the field come to the entry box from Mb Stables and two from Mo Mentum Farm with Asgar adding one to make five. There might be an opportunity in ON signaled by the field size but maybe not.
1. Guapo (Mb Stables/R.M. Hernandez) Five lifetime starts with only one win but each race has been a competitive effort with two placings in previous ON bred stakes races. Speed on the rail and the shorter distance and cutback looks like it will suit him.
2. Twizt On A Dime (Asgar/L. Salles) Broke his maiden in his third start at this track. He broke through going seven furlongs and cuts back to six. Unlike Guapo inside of him he may prefer more ground but he has not run a bad race yet. Running style indicates he would like some speed to give him pace to run at and he may get that.
3. Regal Classic (Mo Mentum Farm/P. Husbands) Made his debut and won going a mile. Then ran a close second at seven furlongs in an ON bred stakes where he finished ahead of Guapo. Continues the reduced distance pattern going six furlongs in this race. There is nothing to indicate he won’t be just as competitive at shorter distances but, on the surface, it seems like the shorter distance would suit the rail horse more.
4. Im Your Man (Mo Mentum Farm/E.J. Wilson) Undefeated but has not been seen since scoring in his two furlong default in an early April baby race. Works indicate he can go longer than a quarter mile but only racing will tell. Interesting that he resurfaces for the first time in a stakes. Seems like a fit but small field also makes this writer wonder if he was entered to make the race go. Either way he is the most interesting horse in the field.
5. Final Bell (Mb Stables/V. Espinoza) One race where he finished fourth a month ago where he was closing at five furlongs at this track. His trainer brings him right back into a stakes race but another one that you have to wonder if he is an entry to get the race to fill. I am playing Miss Cleo by speculating but the tea leaves say that is plausible. Running style is the perfect compliment to his stablemate on the rail.
This is a small field of rapidly developing and changing two year olds with limited form to go by so this is throwing darts to a degree. I think Twizt On A Dime can stalk and pounce from the second post. Guapo is the obvious pacesetter and if he can go along unchallenged he can easily make the six furlongs and win but I will make him my second choice with Regal Classic, who I think wants a longer race, closing for third.
