Falls City Stakes (Grade 3)- $400.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
November 27, 2025
Five were entered into the Falls City Stakes at CD on Thursday, but only four would end up running. Coming out on top would be Mightiness, a five-year-old mare who only began to flash her true ability for the first time this summer. With this victory, she’s won three out of four and has established herself as one to watch going into next year. She is trained by Team 7 Illusions and was ridden by Mario Gutierrez. For each, it is their first Falls City Stakes victory. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was 1:48.00, which is the fourth fastest in the race’s history. Let’s take a look at it now:
(½ Mile- :47.18)- Soliloquy Sunset, the Nakamura Stables filly that was our pick to win, jumps out to the race lead, and is able to move over to the rail in time to begin the run around the opening turn. The other three run alongside one another a length back, and this is how they will take it around the turn. Into the backstretch, it’s still Soliloquy Sunset by a length, with our eventual winner from Team 7 Illusions, Mightiness, stalking the leader while running directly behind her. Winning Link Stables’ Boardwalk Authority is right to her outside while the TwinTowersRacing- trained Radio Ruffian runs in the third lane.
(3/4 Mile- 1:11.35)- Down the backstretch and early into the turn, Soliloquy Sunset continues to hold her length advantage. Behind her, Boardwalk Authority moves into second by a neck and is showing her intentions of making a run on the leader into the turn. Mightiness isn’t too concerned about that right now, though she would not have had room to take a run of her own as she is still situated on the rail directly behind Soliloquy Sunset. Radio Ruffian continues to run on the outside of these.
(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- There is no change out in front, as Soliloquy Sunset continues to be the race leader, but she was nice enough to move off the rail to allow Mightiness to have the opportunity of maintaining her lane to make her move in the stretch. Boardwalk Authority had seemed to be about to take the lead in the turn, but she did not make any progress during it. Radio Ruffian was now starting to get left behind.
(Finish- 1:48.00)- With a furlong to go, both Mightiness and Boardwalk Authority had caught Soliloquy Sunset, as they were heads apart for the race lead. This was good news for Mightiness since she as behind both of them at the top of the stretch. She would inch away from those two as they got closer to the wire and would go on to win by almost a full length. Soliloquy Sunset battled it out, and that was good enough to keep second over Boardwalk Authority, as that one in the final strides began to tire out. Radio Ruffian was never a factor in fourth.
About The Winner- Mightiness, trained by Team 7 Illusions, and ridden to victory by Mario Gutierrez, is a five-year-old mare by Breath Of The Wild and is out of the late Tightness. She was bred by Smokey Stover as a second quarter two-year-old in New York and was acquired by Team 7 Illusions a little before the mass sell off, for $20.010 in the December 2024 auction. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in 15 starts, her third stake win and her second graded win. Her career earnings are now $746.190.
