Five Geldings Do Battle for LCD Turf Crown at The Fairgrounds

LCD Turf Purse $125.00 For Three Year Olds And Upward Foaled In LA.

New Orleans, LA

A small field comprised of five geldings foaled in Louisiana do battle at The Fairgrounds Saturday for the LCD Turf crown at 1 1/16th.

Turf sprinter Singular Focus from Ajm Stables gets the call here in a tussle over three-year-old win machine Continental from Barcelona Farms. “Focus” draws the rail and will save every inch of ground and energy before pouncing. Only one race showing going two turns is the obvious concern, but that effort saw him dead heat for second place with Rearranger and finish behind Boo Boo.Both those horses won graded stakes and would be well bet here. No reason showing to think that “Focus” can’t get the distance. Continental is a three-year-old win machine, going nine for fourteen with two seconds and will take plenty of money at the windows. A proven router on dirt, his only turf appearance had him finish tenth in the high money Nashville Derby. Continental is also unproven against older horses. Speed figures for the top two are close enough, but company is not. Age over beauty, even in December.

Of the rest:

CP Sad Pain from T Boy Racing has enjoyed a productive career going thirteen for thirty-one and ringing up just under $700.000 in earnings. Purchased via the claim box by his current connections, “Pain” has run consistent numbers in all three starts. His style suggest that he will sit and make up yardage late, most likely grinding it out for the last spot in the trifecta.

Neon Town from John Henry was just claimed for $12.500 and the barn wasted no time in putting him into a stakes race in New York where he ran eighth in a nine-horse field. Needs to run back to his April effort in Philadelphia to get a piece here and that is probably only third place unless one of the top two horses don’t fire.

State Au Naturel from Alydar Stables just won by daylight, albeit in a three-horse field going a marathon distance at the $30.000 claiming level. Don’t expect the same trip today.
