The five-year-old took a while to add career win number eight to her tally but did it last time out when taking a competitive allowance over this very mile course. An on-speed type she was pushed into the lead that day by the wide gate speed push but as we see so often, she is more of a stalker from this type of draw and only becomes a front runner from wide. So, the question is will the stable try the gaming buttons to try and get the same result or leave her to hold the rail just behind the speed? Well, the race engine may have the last word on that one but either way she is a consistent sort who will as always be in this race from start to finish.
2 Pelayo Bears Stable Salles L 125 —
Well, there aren’t many four-year-olds with just eleven races under their belt and there are even less that have won eight races so with the perfect draw and an inform jockey you have to take this one really seriously. The underrated owner picked this one up for just $5.000 in a lowly claimer and has brought her on to be a stakes winner. She carried a penalty in the CC Tiara last time but still got to within a length of the winner to end up fourth in what was a highly competitive field. She carries the extra weight today and that may be the biggest drawback to her chances, but penalty or not she is a winning hope.
3 Nurse Hatchet D J C Racing Stables Husbands M J 123 —
A solid sort of four-year-old who has been consistent this season in overnight grade. She seems to have promised a bit through her career but hasn’t been one to find the winners circle too often. Her eight runner up finishes suggests she is certainly a top three hope, but I am not sure she can win this.
4 Count The Gold Spb Racing Dettori L 123 —
Another that seems to be moving through the grades she was a runner up at lowly BTP in the Summer but has won her last two at FE and DMR so is clearly progressing nicely. More of a closing type she will need a solid pace to finish over the top of them, but she gets her chance to prove herself today and is on a hat trick if she can.
5 Last Word Lucy TwinTowersRacing Bravo J 123 —
Fairly lightly raced she is a consistent sort over a variety of trips and distances but has yet to win over the longer trips. Last time out she made the running in the Goldikova but weakened late to be third but that was still a good effort in grade three company and so looks well placed in this race,
6 Elegance Of Light Maxmillion Farm Bridgmohan S X 120 —
Her last two races have been at grade two and grade three and she cashed a cheque in both so must be a big chance to gain some compensation in this race. Her second in the Valley View was better than her effort in the Pebbles last time where the two races were run completely opposite in terms of pace. The Valley View was fast early and they came home tired, the Pebbles slower early but they came home like freight trains so I think we can deduce from that that the race engine holds her best chance of winning. A fast pace and she will slot in, a slower one and she may just be too one paced to get them at the end.
7 Misty Rain Royalty Stables Egan D 120 —
Beaten under a length in the grade one DMR Oaks she then came out and won a competitive AQU allowance in a sub 1.33 carrying just one pound less than she does today. If she is in that sort of form, she could well be the winner as long as the rains do not come.
8 Outrageous Nevada Paradise Stable Fresu A 125 —
A decent daughter of Time Warrior her last start when third behind Pelayo in the Swingtime suggests that she may be just a place chance today. She carried a penalty that day and the winner didn’t so she in entitled to be closer to that one but with the penalty again today she may find a couple of the others too quick.
9 Ice Girl Spb Racing Ruiz Jo 120 —
A very interesting entry as her last three wins have come over five furlongs and she has never stepped out over a trip as long as she runs today. She went from a $7.000 claimer to win a $100.000 Optional claimer at DMR in her last two starts so is already proven a winning claim for the owner, but they look for even more in this race. The wide gate is typical for this type, and we may see her go back to try and preserve her obvious speed for a late finish. I can’t see a win on her form, but I will be watching very closely.
SUMMARY
A nice race for an end of season stakes race and there are plenty of chances. I like the two three-year-olds here in Misty Rain and Elegance Of Light, but I wouldn’t be ruling too many out.
